Subject: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Wesley S Date: 17 Nov 11 - 04:11 PM As some of you know I work at a local food bank on Wednesday mornings. I'm a "bag boy" – I carry groceries out to the car for folks who need the help. Anyway – imagine my surprise when there was a camera crew there last Wednesday morning. They were from the CBS Sunday Morning show with Charles Osgood. Because of Thanksgiving they will be doing some stories about food and hunger in America. We're a fairly affluent county in Forsyth { north Georgia } – but hunger still exists here. We were told that IF the story airs it will be this coming Sunday – the 20th. Here in Georgia it airs at 9:00 AM. Check your local listings { I've never had to say that before}. So I hope you'll watch the show – but NOT to see me. IF the segment airs and IF I'm in any of the shots used it will be very briefly.More than likly just my backside - and I've shown that often enough here. But it will feature the good work that the food bank is doing for those folks who need it. It's usually a fine show with interesting stories and worth watching. We'll also have an open meal on Thanksgiving day for anyone in the community that wants to drop by - no charge. We expect to feed several hundred people that day. If you're in north Georgia let me know if you need direstions. Happy Thanksgiving |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Fossil Date: 17 Nov 11 - 04:25 PM Well, perhaps not the most "pulling" thread title I've ever seen, but when you get past that, it's a pretty good story. As they say down here in NZ "Good onya mate!" You're clearly doing good work there with the food bank and your invite to Thanksgiving dinner is much appreciated. it's a fair step, so probably won't be able to make it, but thanks anyway. Best of luck to you. |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: gnu Date: 17 Nov 11 - 04:39 PM Not interested in your backside but if I catch a break about that time I'll flick it on... the TV. |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Nov 11 - 06:59 PM I won't be tuning in Sunday morning to look for a backside I won't recognize. May I make a suggestion? If you go to CBS.com on Monday, if it airs, you can watch the clips from the show, post links to them and point out which backside is yours. |

Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Nov 11 - 07:23 PM Very good Wes! The only thing I have to say though is that it takes some getting used to see "affluent" and Forsyth County in the same sentence....... Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: katlaughing Date: 17 Nov 11 - 07:48 PM That's awesome, Wesley! Good work, backside, and all.:-) It will be 7am, here, so I'll probably wait for the replay online. Truly is neat, though. (Some of my direct ancestors were Forsythes, but they were in VA and spelled it both with or without an "e".) kat |

Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 17 Nov 11 - 09:00 PM Oh, you're in Forsyth County. I thought you meant you're in the town of Forsyth. It's between Macon and Atlanta and can only be described as being in north Georgia if you fold your Georgia roadmap in a fashion that incorporates at least two extra dimensions. |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Nov 11 - 11:20 PM I know what your front side looks like Wesley, so this way I'll have a 3D view of you! You might be interested to know that here in Fort Worth (your old stomping grounds) the company that makes Holy Guacamole decided that rather than sell a refrigerated warehouse that they were no longer using, they donated it to the Tarrant Area Food Bank, who had been paying a lot of rent to use a warehouse like this. Can you imagine how that shifts the cash, from space to food? It was wonderful news and wasn't trumpeted nearly as much as it should have been. But now you know. I've also been in one of those tiny clips on CBS - they visited a park where I was working in NYC - you saw me walking toward the camera (back in about 1980). A lot of work for a few seconds on screen. Good work, Wes. I have been thinking that if one of these years my garden gets established enough to feed more than myself that I'd like to donate fresh produce to the food bank. It may not be a lot that any one of us does, but that squash or okra that I donate or that you load into someone's car will be greatly appreciated when it reaches the table! SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: BTNG Date: 17 Nov 11 - 11:26 PM Congrats to you and your backside *LOL* and a happy Thanksgiving to you and, indeed, to all the American members of The Mudcat Family! Sam (BTNG) |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Nov 11 - 11:48 PM Are you up in Cumming? |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Wesley S Date: 18 Nov 11 - 08:18 AM Yes I'm in Cumming - the birthplace of Junior Samples. How did you ever hear of it? Stilly - That's good news about the TC Food Bank. I remember their old location. It's great to think that all of the rent money they were spending will now be spent on food. And speaking of gardens - one nice thing about our food bank is that we have a friend with an organic farm. She used to be a chemistry teacher. Now she has set aside an area of her farm so that we can give away fresh vegtables. But truth be told - it seems like a lot of poorer folks have gotten away from cooking. They know how to prepare a box of macaroni and cheese but don't know how to cook an eggplant or fix mustard and collard greens. So we've given away some directions on how they should be prepared. |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Nov 11 - 09:57 AM It sounds like the food bank needs to offer cooking classes along with fresh veggies - they'd be more likely to get used that way. SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: GUEST,ChanteyLass on cell Date: 20 Nov 11 - 10:32 PM I heard it but was in the middle of something else in another room and didn't see it. From what I heard it was well-done. |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Jack the Sailor Date: 21 Nov 11 - 12:12 AM I have a friend who moved to Cumming and used that line. "Now I'm up in Cumming." (up and coming) Nice to hear about the phone bank. Were you on TV? Can you post the link? |
Subject: RE: BS: I might be on TV this Sunday morning From: Jack the Sailor Date: 21 Nov 11 - 09:34 AM Is this the report? The food bank stuff is all in the first two minutes. Is that your food bank? Are you the dude putting the gravy on the turkey? or the one filling up the green bag? or the dude in the blue and white striped polo shirt? |
