Subject: BS: Return of Nigel's quiz - BREWERS From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Dec 11 - 06:56 AM After a break from my quizzes for a while I am starting again! As before "Please do not put answers in the discussion" This first new quiz is totally UK-centric as all the Brewers are british. This should not prevent others from answering the questions, which are general knowledge. It will just make it harder to confirm the links. Answers will be posted later, in another thread (so the quiz remains available for others to try even once the answers are known) Cheers Nigel Brewers quiz All answers are the names of brewers. Some may be abbreviated to the name they are generally known by. 1 Which schoolboy character was created by Anthony Buckeridge? 2 What are used in curling (where other sports use balls or pucks)? 3 Which member of the crow family appears on the coat of arms of Cornwall? 4 What single shot scores 40 in darts? 5 Whose hound caused problems for Sherlock Holmes? 6 Whose 'Half-Hour' TV show co-starred Sid James? 7 What word, meaning to direct argumentative questions at a witness, is also the name of a black & white British mammal? 8 Which ITV show of the '60s & '70s was intended to compete with BBC's Blue Peter? 9 Where were Chaucer's pilgrims heading? 10 Who was the fictitious inventor of the 'Thunderbirds' craft? 11 Which ship took the Pilgrim fathers to America? 12 In the scale devised by Anders Celsius, what was the boiling point of water? 13 Which LNER steam locomotive holds the world speed record for steam locomotives? 14 Whose alter-ego was Dr Jeckyll? 15 If you were allowed to play 'Pub Names Scrabble', and played "Lamb And Flag" which letters score 3 points? 16 Which British coin measured 1 inch in diameter and was last minted in 1970? 17 What (generally speaking) is the lowest male singing voice? 18 What was the surname of the children (Jane & Michael) in the film 'Mary Poppins'? 19 What ground is the home to the RFU? 20 What was the surname of the woman to whom Noel Coward said "Don't put your daughter on the stage"? |

Subject: RE: BS: Return of Nigel's quiz - BREWERS From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Dec 11 - 08:00 AM A good start, but you missed the request: "Please do not put answers in the discussion" 12/20 (but I'm not saying which ones. If a mud-elf could remove the above answers it would be appreciated. Ta! Nigel |

Subject: RE: BS: Return of Nigel's quiz - BREWERS From: greg stephens Date: 16 Dec 11 - 08:30 AM Well, 15 has me well stumped. Now, if it had been 4 instead of 3, M&B would have been a great answer. Resorting to Google, there is a firm called AAA which makes brewery equipmewnt in the USA, but that doesn't fill the bill. Think I will have to give up and get on with cards or shopping, neither of which hold out much charms. |
Subject: RE: BS: Return of Nigel's quiz - BREWERS From: greg stephens Date: 16 Dec 11 - 08:54 AM Aha, I was looking at the letter distribution list on my Scrabble board, thinking it was listing the scores for those letters(giving 2 each for M and B). I now see the error of my ways. |

Even more worrying, although I went through and checked my sources, the quiz was written of the top of my head, questions and answers! I've had at least one pint from each of the brewers mentioned. |
