We're fine and dry, although it's humid as hell! Had Irene continued up the Gulf Coast, we would probably have had some good rain, which we need desperately. But it looks like the Carolinas are going to get hit. On the way to the getaway, I stopped in Rocky Mount, NC, to visit my cousin and family. They were very lucky because their house sits up high, but all over town people's belongings were heaped on the side of the road from having to muck out their homes after the floods. It was a sad sight. Thanks for the warm thoughts, though, because they're appreciated ... moonchild

We got about .25" rain in Lakeland. Could have used more here too. Feast or famine. Winds were only 30-35 mph. North Carolina will probably get more than they want. Going up there in 2 weeks.

Well, it's foggy here in New York, and since we love fog so much, we're gonna go for a walk.

Love you all

Have seen the news on TV,I hope you are all OK over there.
If we get a tree blown down its a hurricane,-5 is a severe frost.1" of snow is a blizzard,I guess we're lucky not having the kind of weather you guys get.
Thinking of you wl

Yes, here we go again! Just when us Eastern North Carolinians thought we could clean up from Floyd --BAM! Here comes Irene. Since I'm an ECU student, I have to live up here in Greenville, NC which is in Pitt County, which undoubtedly saw the worst damage & flooding from Floyd. My apartment came through fine, in fact, during the hurricane, I was watching the storm reports of TV and playing a little Celtic guitar. My family home is in Hubert, in Onslow county, where hurricanes Bertha, Fran, and Bonnie all made landfall, and from what I hear on the news, Irene will make landfall in Onslow too. (I just spent the last 2 hours coming here from Hubert--non-stop torrential downpours all the way!)I hope everything will be allright. Rain in not what we need--e.g. in Kinston (45 minutes from Greenville) the Neuse River, which is still at 16 ft (6 feet above flood stage) was going to crest at 18 ft after last week's rain, could rise another 7 ft if Kinston receives a mere 5 inches of rain. This is Mbo signing off from the soggiest spot in the world.

--Mbo

P.S. I'm still working on my song "The Ballad of Hurricane Floyd"

And we're supposed to get some of Irene's leftover rain up here in DC, which I hope sinks our drought talk of earlier this year even deeper into the mud! I found it somewhat amusing that all our weather reporters said we needed a tropical storm to end our drought...and then we got TWO! I hope they're satisfied...performing Maryland RenFest in the middle of Dennis was an interesting experience.

Meanwhile, we've got quakes out West too...nature's ganging up on both shores...

-- Gary

Mbo ... can readily sympathize with you ... as said earlier, I have cousins in Rocky Mount ... also have a lot of family in Morehead City, Beaufort (NC), Atlantic Beach, Wilmington, New Bern, Newport, Newport News, and a few other places on the eastern coast. Stay drive and let's pray there's no more flooding. It was heart rendering seeing people's total earthly belongings by the side of the road ... moonchild ... tucked away safe in North Florida
