Subject: BS: What to do with Froggie???
From: Bobert
Date: 23 May 12 - 09:17 PM

Well, about ten days ago the P-Vine and I were getting ready to enjoy some time by the pool and I opened up an umbrella over the glider and a tree frog fell out on the P-Vine... He'd been up under the umbrella... So here it is about ten days later and he is still living in the umbrella and then when we open it at night he drops down and hangs out with us on this little table...

I donno what to do??? I like him okay but I'm afraid he's gonna starve to death hanging with us...

What do do???

B~

He must be getting flies in the umbrella eh? If not, serve him a few Mai Flais. You know, the drinks with the little umbrellas... if he is of age, of course. If he tries to sell you insurance in a Brit accent, there's always frog legs for an appetizer.

Does he look like this except smaller? Judy spotted this one for me last summer, and he sat there and posed nice. The picture is way over life size.

Here in Suffolk we have a number of unpleasant answers to this question, all based on the resentment we still feel following his pusillanimous retreat from the battle of Sole Bay in 1672 when the Dutch fleet appeared over the horizon.

Turned a well-planned potential victory into a muddled and inconclusive scuffle. Luckily we don't hold a grudge....

The pic that frogprince posted ain't my little buddy... Mine is all gray... No green... Other wise, he looks the same...

I think I'll let him hang out a few more days and then relocate him to the woods...

Ayuh, that's what we get, gray tree frogs. Cute little buggers. Sometimes they end up in the house when I bring hanging plants inside in the fall.

LOUD little suckers, too.

I try to keep them outside...

When I lived in a house with a pool, often one or more would sit on the slide. They would stay for days or weeks. And then one day I would look for them and they had moved on. I hope that if your frog needs more food, it will do that, too, or you can move him. I would leave him alone because he seems happy and seems to make you happy, too.

If he doesn't get enough to eat, he'll move. I had a spider when I was in S Korea. It built a web in my living room, out of the way, and he was really big enough so I didn't want to squish him. I left him alone and he ate bugs that came in and got stuck in his web. I think I would have much rather had a frog. They don't make as much of a mess.

The gray tree frogs here sing to me, but they're happy to stay outside. I did have one on my screen door handle once, but he was just hangin' out there for a while.

Well, from what I've read Froggie is out of the woods supposedly lookin' for some action, if ya get my drift... Maybe he didn't read what I read 'cause he ain't doing squat to attract any mates... Unless, of course, pooin' on outdoor furniture is part of their mating ritual...

Hmmmmmm??? Might have a little Wes Ginny in him then... lol...

We don't get those sort of frogs here, but some years ago, a single male green frog found our goldfish pond. He called and called until he attracted six other males and a bevy of females, and they filled the pond with tadpoles. The adults shot through, and the tadpoles grew to the stage when they started to grow legs. We felt quite paternal, or in one case maternal.

Then the goldfish realised that tadpoles were edible. One day, all gone.
We learned:
Frogs scream when the cat catches them, loudly enough to startle the cat into letting go (once) and loudly enough to wake people up.
Frogs can only do about six jumps without taking a rest.
The local frog sounds like a two-stroke motor.
Middle-sized goldfish can wipe out a whole generation of frogs.

No wonder they are getting scsrce.

Not that I am suggesting, but... I ran a job on the airport in Churchill Falls, Labrador back in 83. Stayed at the hotel. Had a couple of Newfs workin for me. I used to order the frogs legs (yes, in Labrador in 83) as an appetizer for supper. One of them would look away and the other left the table... he went to the washroom and nearly threw up the first time I did it. Surprised me for a man who would eat rabbit and squirrel!

Thou shalt not eat hummingbirds nor any part thereof for they are The King Of All Birds. Thus God spake.

Frogs... whatever. Have at it. Even if ya gotta use some kinda fancy Yuppie sauce. God prefers a simple garlic and butter fry, or so I hear from Pete.
