Subject: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: PHJim Date: 25 Jun 12 - 04:52 PM There is a group of mothers calling themselves "The Million Moms", who purport to stand for all things decent in society. They had a Facebook page on which they called for a boycott of J C Penny unless they replaced Ellen with a heterosexual spokesperson. When I read this, I looked for their page on Facebook in order to read the comments, but found that it had been taken down. I wonder who removed it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Jun 12 - 05:09 PM "Ellen"? How does one go about standing for ALL things decent in society? When would you know you'd made the quota and fully satisfied the requirement? How many such things are there? A few million? Or a few billion? What I saying is....it's a large field to cover. Then there are all things indecent...possibly an even larger field. Shane has been working hard on the latter, but he has a way to go yet. |

Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: gnu Date: 25 Jun 12 - 05:14 PM I saw the Ellen show today while waiting to be probed and poked at the hospital. 1M Moms has 40k members. They got TRASHED on the TV show. J C Penny told them to fuck off. Maybe they got the message. Hope so. What a bunch of ignorant idiots. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Jun 12 - 05:16 PM Heh! Here I am, still wondering...who the hell is "Ellen"? I don't watch TV, so I tend to miss out on some of this stuff. |

Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Jack the Sailor Date: 25 Jun 12 - 05:35 PM Question: How does a group called "one million moms" with only 40,000 members get immediate, nationwide publicity on popular shows like Ellen? |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Jack the Sailor Date: 25 Jun 12 - 05:36 PM "I don't watch TV, so I tend to miss out on some of this stuff." try this "www.google.com" |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: gnu Date: 25 Jun 12 - 06:05 PM JtS... "Question: How does a group called "one million moms" with only 40,000 members get immediate, nationwide publicity on popular shows like Ellen?" Because they stated that they were gonna boycott J C Penny because J C Penny's new spokesperson, Ellen, is gay. J C Penny is gonna make some coin. And so they should. No? |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Wesley S Date: 25 Jun 12 - 07:21 PM I'm pretty sure that was a repeat from earlier in the year. I think the standoff was over months ago. So you might have to dig back to find some info on the subject. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: gnu Date: 25 Jun 12 - 07:47 PM Cool. Sorry. I just saw the TV show on the screen in a hopspital waitng room. I seldom watch TV... sports and comedy at best. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: GUEST Date: 25 Jun 12 - 07:48 PM I've always bought stuff at Penney's and been a bit embarrassed about it. Now I can wear it with pride. The 40K members of One Million Moms have media clout commensurate with all the wingnut welfare money they get from the Kochs and their ilk. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Bobert Date: 25 Jun 12 - 08:02 PM J.C.Penny has bigger problems that Ellen... They hired a guy away from a competitor last year to assist them in "re-branding" and the new brand is as bad as the last one so they just fired him... Penny's is going down, down, down... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: SINSULL Date: 25 Jun 12 - 10:06 PM JCP ran an ad campaign offering honest pricing every day instead of sales off prices that never existed in the first place. They also got rid of the "99". You know $2.99 instead of $3.00. Turns out America prefers to pay $3.99 on an item marked $6 rather than $3 on the same item never marked down. Go figure. I don't shop malls and hence not JC Penney. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 26 Jun 12 - 12:10 AM trivia alert - The reason we have prices that end in "99" or something similar is a survivor of the early days of retail in the 19th century in Britain. Shopkeepers didn't trust their socially inferior employees with money, so made sure the customer needed to receive a little bit of change. This meant the employee had to take the money to the cashier to get it (tho maybe some kept a few coins in their pockets ... the original small coin was a farthing (one quarter of a penny) but then prices were much lower back in the olden days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Little Hawk Date: 26 Jun 12 - 12:20 AM Jack, I know perfectly well that I can look it up on Google...but why should I deprive some person here of the joy of explaining it all to me instead? That's why I asked the question here, instead of just looking it up on Google. If I wasn't acquainted with other Mudcatters in the first place, then I'd look everything up on Google or somewhere else impersonal like that, I would discuss nothing here, and I would never come here at all. I talk to people here because I already know them. Period. I came here in the first place because some local folkies I already knew in 3-D life in my own town were already members here, and they told me about the place. Curiosity then drew me in. It has since developed into a habit that has so far kept me here (with occasional vacations). I think all the rest of you have that same habit, obviously, so I'm certainly not alone. It's normal to talk to people you already know about stuff, and to ask them questions, rather than just looking it all up on Google. Google isn't alive. That makes having a real conversation with Google impossible. One nice thing about Google, though. If you go there for information, it doesn't say to you, "Why don't you just go ask your friends instead?", because it has no personal axe to grind. Google doesn't have any personal agenda when it comes to me or anyone else, it just is what it is...a neutral search engine. People have their personal agendas. And they vary considerably...depending on whom they are addressing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: Desert Dancer Date: 26 Jun 12 - 12:49 AM Ellen DeGeneres is a comedian and actress, successful in stand-up and with her own sitcom, "Ellen" in the mid-'90s. She came out as a lesbian in 1997, in the 4th season of the sitcom. She now has a successful daytime talk show. The Ellen DeGeneres-One Million Moms (and others) controversy is from February-March. However, it's not a one-off. JC Penney has maintained their stand in support of LGBT people: on Mother's and Father's Days, they included some same-sex parents among the parents pictured in their ads. Good on 'em, I say. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 26 Jun 12 - 01:23 PM How do we know they have 40,000 members? I bet "One Million Moms" is actually two guys in their parents' basement. By the way, I'm getting tired of hearing 'mom' instead of 'mother,' as if we were all little kids. I think there's a certain amount of manipulation in today's overuse of 'mom.' Ellen D. (I don't know how to spell it either.) has a daytime TV show. I'm pretty sure that the people who watch her show know enough about sex and sexual exploitation not to be bothered by two nice women in a committed relationship. |

My kids always introduce my wife by calling her "my mom". Although my kids still, at 36, call me Papa, they introduce me as "my dad". |

Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: saulgoldie Date: 26 Jun 12 - 04:49 PM In principle, I agree with you, Greg. However, this is something that is not necessarily so clearly related to intelligence. The use of numbers often confuses many very bright people whose particular flavor of intellect may be in sound, or color, or shape. For example, I insist, against "common wisdom," that not all people should be expected to drive a car or operate a computer. And others should not be allowed to handle food or decorate a room. But I digress from the thread, which is already in progress... Ugly clothes? When I want to leave K-Mart to get some "nice clothes" I usually end up at JCP. What does that say about me? Nevermind. If something previously had been valued at $6.00 and they were now offering it $2.00 off, it implies that it was of better quality than the item valued at $3.00 from the beginning. |
Subject: RE: BS: Million Moms vs J C Penny From: gnu Date: 26 Jun 12 - 05:12 PM Hey... I bought jeans at Walmart for $7.96. Analyse that. The pockets are the shits. I sewed in some lining. Cost? Thread and an old pillow slip. The pockets don't quite hang right and the arse is baggy but I am 55 and so is me arse. The baggy pants are just the ticket. Ugly clothes? Hey, when yer this good lookin, the ladies see the ugly jeans and wrinkled tee shirt and think, "That man just needs a good woman to dress him right." Beats havin a dog for them to pet to get to talk to me. Cheaper. Don't have to feed the dog or walk it. besides, I don't need a dog to send outside to see if it's rainin. I got radar.. |
