The lad is now in a deep funk and is facing the wall on his little shelf. Here he was, a poor little possum who for once was so joyous and happy to offer up some serious help and aid for mankind, and then Sister Mary Sunshine turns into Cruella deVille and now this adorable little possum may never recover from the depressive state in which he now finds himself.

I know what we need to do to cheer up poor little Cleigh. Raise money and get a gigantic stone(d) possum monument erected somewhere in the central or western USA. Carve it out of a mountainside like the Crazy Horse thing. Make it even BIGGER than the Crazy Horse Monument! Build a visitors center for millions of tourists to come from all over the world and gawk at it and take pictures. Get Homeland Security to put a defensive missile shield around it in case of an attack by Al Qaeda.

We almost got Millard Fillmore to the top of the Toy Presidents popularity poll, so I don't see why we shouldn't be able to manage a simple little project like this.

I'm gonna PM Max and see what can be done about it.

Thanks for the link. Spaw. The possum protein seems to work against venom from natural sources -- "envenomation caused by animals, plants and bacteria."

We can still use cyanide (inorganic and fast-acting) against the smart-asses on this thread if we want.

Maybe someday all hospitals and clinics will have medicine on hand, medicine which we owe to the once-lowly possum.

Man, it should have been obvcious if only we'd had the eyes to see it. I mean, Cleigh has survived the venomous spittle of Martin Gibson, Janet, and about sixty other exemplars of the venemous class, and has emerged without a scratch.

It is a proud moment for possums everywhere. I hope it is a chemical thing, and not some peculiar spiritual power that comes with being incarnated as an opossum.

It seems odd that nothing seems to have been done about this since 1999. Maybe it's all another internet fairy tale. Sad, if so...

We do have to ask ourselves if straightforward, straight-shooting investigators would invent a word like 'envenomation.'

I keep water on my back porch, and sometimes a possum comes up in the night and gets a drink. No snakes, though. What's that all about?

I was walking, alone and unarmed, when I was attacked. Yes, it was a Didelphidae Giganticus Montibus -- a Giant American Mountain Possum!

Fortunately I made it to my car with entire steps to spare before the ravening beast would have made a meal of me. Nevertheless, it grabbed my car in its jaws and shook it so hard I thought the doors would fly open and my doom sealed! Somehow I pushed the "Panic" button on my car key and the resultant horn honking and lights flashing frightened the thing so that it dropped my car, tooth marked and spit covered, and fled into those dark mountain recesses it calls home.

I was prostrate for ten days from the fright this encounter engendered, and I resolved to never again go unarmed into the mountains. I know carry a pair of pearl handled AGM-114N antitank missiles in my holsters. Fortunately, I haven't been attacked by the creatures since, but an entire school bus transporting a high school cricket team disappeared the other day, leaving but chewed tires behind.
