Last Tuesday I was in Iowa and working out at the hotel fitness room when the weights got jammed in the track on the Nautilus machine. Never try to unjam a weight machine with your hand! Bottom line is I received a crush injury to my left hand with five fractures. None required surgery or pinning, but I'm in a cast and will probably have to go through a couple of months of therapy afterwards.

So my Martin 6 string will be quite lonely for a while. I expect a good recovery, but will likely be left with considerable stiffness in my fingers for some time. It is cause for some concern, and I appreciate any positive thoughts, wishes, prayers, or even good-natured sarcasm (Spaw, I mean)as I heal.

In the meantime, from one recovering one-handeer to another...wiping is going to be hard for a while and I suggest wearing loafers instead of shoes that you have to tie.

Some Mudcat mojo heading your way from Köln. Many, many years ago a martial arts trainer told me never to train with anything other than the weight of my own body. It is also cheaper and you need less space! Glad to hear that the injury is going to heal. Keep us posted how the recovery is going!

You DO need some real Mojo Leej.......Let me take this laptop into the john and I will send the following chant which I shall repeat 7 times. This powerful prayer chant was transcribed by Lord Windesmear in 1921 after a prayer vigil with Joseph Pujol the French flatulist, aka Le Petomane.

They were about 45 minutes into this session with the god Creppita when Pujol began speaking in tongues repeating the chant I will post below. When it was over, both passed gas and lit matches in the great god's honor. They also noted that many aches and pains they had each been suffering were gone! Over the years they developed this healing technique and it is what I will now do for you.

Well, gnu, the guitar for that was done over a year ago, so I added some one-handed tamborine and overdubbed some vocal.
I came out of the cast a week ago, and still have a lot of swelling. The bones have mostly healed and have apparently healed straight, and I start therapy on Thursday. I don't anticipate being able to play at all for another month or two. I tried an A chord yesterday and didn't begin to have the required dexterity for it. Still optimistic, but have a ways to go. Keep the mojo coming!

Spaw... it ain't about heavy weights, it's about reps. Repetitive strain injury is serious shit. Being premature in recovery can go either way.

When my wrist was still healing from its break (both radius and ulna at the wrist ends) and guitar chords - particular C - were still hard to play, I bought a ukulele. Playing chords on it are a snack compared to guitar chords, and it certainly helped my recovery.

Saw the therapist today, and her prognosis was a complete healing and return to normal strength and agility. When I asked "how long", she smiled and said "that's partly up to you and how much you exercise the hand", so, looks good.
