Subject: RE: Obit: Gore Vidal.... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Aug 12 - 09:41 AM Mr. Vidal loved conspiracy theories of all sorts, especially the ones he imagined himself at the center of, and he was a famous feuder; he engaged in celebrated on-screen wrangles with Mailer, Capote and William F. Buckley Jr. Mr. Vidal did not lightly suffer fools — a category that for him comprised a vast swath of humanity, elected officials especially . . . I definitely remember this about him! But also his talent. RIP SRS |
Subject: RE: Obit: Gore Vidal.... From: GUEST,999 Date: 01 Aug 12 - 09:58 AM No more be grieved at that which thou hast done: Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud; Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun, And loathsome canker lives in sweetest bud. WS, Sonnet 35 |

Subject: RE: Obit: Gore Vidal.... From: Ebbie Date: 01 Aug 12 - 05:19 PM In somewhat the same way I listened to Mailer, Buckley and Vidal. Each of them was brilliant, acerbic and lofty. All gone now. Who is to take their place? |
Subject: RE: Obit: Gore Vidal.... From: Big Al Whittle Date: 02 Aug 12 - 03:43 AM I seem to remember contributing to a thread having read Lincoln. And somewhere in the mists of time, i think i read one about Billy the Kid. He was a regular on chat shows over here - very witty, always 'nicely turned out' - as they sy in Lancashire, coiffured and elegance personified. I always associated him with that very swish literary artistic set - Isherwood, David hockney etc. Strange name really....gore....in England it would have marred him for life....Gore Blimey! |
Subject: RE: Obit: Gore Vidal.... From: bobad Date: 02 Aug 12 - 07:51 AM His birth name - Eugene Luther Gore Vidal - distantly related to Al Gore. |
