Hiya,

Assessment meeting went fine. The 2 women that came seemed sensible.

Now I have a stay at this new care home on 16th Aug. The company who runs it ran the other home (that can't take me) are very good. I'm sure it won't take me the whole day to decide whether it's for me or not, but I can't afford not to like it either, because most of the others are so unsuitable.

This isn't just a Respite stay, but I'll live there for the rest of my life & I'm worried. The people who live there are younger, & when I think of younger people (I don't meet that many apart from said sacked carers & some of you) I always think of those at college, who I found it difficult to get on with; they had no interests & anyone who did was to be avoided.

I don't know how to tell the people I formed bonds with in the other home that I won't be living there either.

Wishing you courage and strength with it all. It does sound hard. You sound very level headed and resilent in your posts, but i know that doesn't make ths much change any easier to face. It is grief leaving what you know and have adjusted to.
Remember how many of us here are thinking of you and wishing for it to turn out well.

Your stay there on Thursday week should give you a chance to meet the other people you'd be living with, and give them a chance to meet you. I hope they'll turn out better than you fear.

Make a list of what you are worried about and be sure to refer to it while you are there. You might want to make notes on some of the items at that time as well. It may help in your assessment.

I know this may sound trite - don't be worried but do address your " concerns"... organizing them on paper before you go may help in your assessment and being prepared in this way may help allay your worrying.

I hope that you are able to interest others in things you like and meet people who expand your interests.

Remember that the entire world is/or should be accessible to you through Skype etc. Do they have connections with both facilities so you can keep in touch? Or you could do music with all sorts of people here, smarter than me, who have figured it out. You can communicate with singers in Japan, Netherlands, Ghana etc...if not right now, very soon.

Hiya,

The thing about this care home is they seem to have a higher standard of care & take more interest in you. I don't think they have key workers/mentors either, which is good –- every time I've had one I couldn't stand her.

The last time I lived away I got ill. I was on pills for my mood (I was upset because I was missing my family & pets) breathing, to help me sleep etc., which is the worst thing you can do if you're a CPAP patient (didn't know I needed one then) All that was wrong was I had an underactive thyroid!

I played 'Must I Be Bound?' before the assessment. I think all these songs have done me a great service, I can relate to them a lot better. & a lot of older people seem to get on with me because of my tastes. If I was still listening to angry shouting rock or something, songs about hating everyone etc., I'd have taken this a lot worse than I have.

Should be moving in at end of Sept if place is good.

My life is richer for finding this website & I wish I'd found it before.

Claire,
I don't envy your your problems but consider how lucky you are to live when you you do. Even 20 years ago you would not have the had the opportunity to reach beyond your four walls. Now the world is open to you.
You can earn a college degree online, learn to fly an airplane, do whatever you want.
This is a huge red flag:

I always think of those at college, who I found it difficult to get on with; they had no interests & anyone who did was to be avoided.

Claire, they had lots of interests. You were not interested in what excited them. Try to let other people in.

Keep us posted.

Hiya,

"Claire, they had lots of interests. You were not interested in what excited them."

& vice versa.

"Try to let other people in."

Thanks.

"Keep us posted."

Course I will
