Subject: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: JohnInKansas Date: 21 Aug 12 - 01:06 AM Worth perhaps momentary interest: twitter-map-shows-where-the-biggest-jerks-live?. (Maybe some of us should have a talk with our neighbors?) John |

Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 21 Aug 12 - 05:01 AM Why is Houston a red zone? They must be very bad-tempered there! |
Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: Allan C. Date: 21 Aug 12 - 05:43 AM A map is totally useless without a key. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: Dead Horse Date: 21 Aug 12 - 07:51 AM Looks like Houston has a problem. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: JohnInKansas Date: 21 Aug 12 - 09:16 AM I linked to the "news" report at MSNBC. There is a "source" link at the bottom of that page that should take you to the "interactive map" where MSNBC got the story, probably with more details; but as I said "my interest was only worth a moment" so I didn't look to see how much more might be at the "real" map. I noted that Kansas didn't show much, which I attribute to the majority here who hardly think anything at all unless their preacher tells them what to think, so they mostly have "no comment" unless it's real honest bible-based (or TeaParty Republican - much the same) HATE - which seems to be mostly in the extreme southeast corner of the state(?). Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 21 Aug 12 - 11:08 AM If the map was compiled by mining Twitter messages* which specifically use the phrase "Fuck you", then the research is subject to regional and dialect-based errors. For example, many messages originating south of the Mason-Dixon line would probably say "Fuck y'all!" and those originating in NYC or New Jersey would likely say "Hey! Go fuck ya'self!" Unless the search algorithm was sufficiently fine-tuned to recognize such regional variants, the reseach cannot be considered 100% accurate. * I'll call Twitter messages "tweets" when someone holds a gun to my head and forces me to do so. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: ChanteyLass Date: 21 Aug 12 - 06:57 PM I clicked on the "source" link and saw a map for another offensive word, not a key, which is what I was looking for. Both maps as shown have cut off most of New England. Whew! Sometimes being left out is a relief. |
Subject: RE: BS: Maps can show almost anything From: Jack the Sailor Date: 22 Aug 12 - 12:03 AM I am glad that other people are willing to care bout Twitter so that I do not have to. |
