Subject: BS: Where to go in October / November From: Cats Date: 02 Sep 12 - 04:29 PM sadly my trip to egypt is on hold due to my travelling companion now not being able to go so the BIG question is.. any suggestions where would be good in the last week of October / first week in November that isn't going to cost the earth with single supplements? |

Subject: RE: BS: Where to go in October / November From: ChanteyLass Date: 02 Sep 12 - 08:28 PM Single supplements are a killer for me, too. I did manage to get to Iceland and Greenland on a trip with Vantage Travel that had no single supplement on the dates I went. I think I went in the fall, but it was earlier in the fall than when you want to go. I had always been curious about Iceland and Greenland, but it hadn't been at the top of my list of places to go. When I saw that there was no single supplement on these dates, though, it shot to the top. It was a wonderful trip and I am very glad I went. |
Subject: RE: BS: Where to go in October / November From: mg Date: 02 Sep 12 - 11:08 PM There was great consensus among friends that Turkey was the most wonderful place they had ever visited it should be nice in the fall |
Subject: RE: BS: Where to go in October / November From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Sep 12 - 12:28 AM I think I'd suggest taking a cruise of the Aegean along with that trip to Turkey. Italy is wonderful in November, by the way. I think you're wise not to go to Egypt without a companion. I was there in May, and I didn't feel comfortable going places by myself. I was fine when I was with my sister, who was living in Alexandria and knew her way around - and most of the time, her husband and two adult children were with us, all seasoned travelers. One thing women travelers should know - women get harassed in Egypt, all the time. Best to travel in a group. I went to Egypt and Ireland in May, and to Italy in June. Egypt and Italy were very hot at that time, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. November would be a better month for both Egypt and Italy. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Travel: Where to go in October / November From: Cats Date: 03 Sep 12 - 08:02 AM Hi Guest. As a trip had been cancelled, explained in the first sentence, I thought it would be logical and grammatically correct, that I was looking for another possible destinantion. Sorry to confuse you but glad others thought it made sense and have made some suggestions. Charley... am starting in the UK Thanks for the suggestions so far. Keep them coming but the killer is the single supplemant which can almost double the price and I am not prepared to pay that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Travel: Where to go in October / November From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Sep 12 - 09:55 AM Cats- Well, you could fly over to Maine in October. The fall colors are lovely, the summer tourists have fled, and lobsters are still very inexpensive. There are also wonderful music events, most happening around the 3rd weekend. Theere are also a number of resident Mudcatters that would no doubt provide hospitality, with some reasonable notice. Cheerily, Charley Noble Richmond, Maine, on the Kennebec River |

I worked at the Wohelo Summer camps on the Sebago Lakes near prtland when I was a student in the 70's. And the lovely Mainiacshelped me buy my cloak from there a few years back. A very good thought! x |

Subject: RE: BS: Travel: Where to go in October / November From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 04 Sep 12 - 08:58 AM If you're going to worry about money the whole time, a trip abroad won't be a true vacation. Postpone your big travel plans till your friend can go with you. Meanwhile, give yourself a treat at home to replace the big vacation. Go to the theater, visit a spa, take a coach tour in the UK, or just stay home, take long warm baths, and sing while doing it. (People used to do that all the time.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Travel: Where to go in October / November From: Cats Date: 04 Sep 12 - 12:24 PM Hi Leeneia, I'm not worried about the money all the time, it's just that single supplements can almost double the initial cost of a holiday. If I went to egypt on my own, and I'm not as I have promised my friend we can go together next year, it would have cost nearly £5,750 as opposed to £3000 if you go with a friend and share a room. As I work from home, if I stay here I will work. |

Subject: RE: BS: Travel: Where to go in October / November From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Sep 12 - 06:08 AM I'm going to London in the middle of November - it was going to be Budapest but getting a free flat decided it. Both are good places to be in unpredictable weather, since they have so many options for what you can do. (If it really sucks, do undergound Buda or the Cabinet War Rooms). One place that is positively enhanced by grotty autumn weather is Bruges. Read this book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruges-la-Morte |
