Subject: BS: Christmas has come early! From: melodeonboy Date: 27 Sep 12 - 08:29 AM Spotted in the co-op in Milton Regis (Kent) on 25th. September: Co-operative Christmas Mince Pies! On closer examination, I noticed that the expiry date was 16th. October! What's all that about, then? |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: JennieG Date: 27 Sep 12 - 08:37 AM Mince pies have already been in the shops here for a couple of months, at least. I like mince pies, but so far have refrained from buying any. Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 27 Sep 12 - 09:18 AM They are not Christmas mince pies, are really pre-christmas mince pies! Maybe you can report them to the appropriate authority which deals with false advertising. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: Richard Bridge Date: 27 Sep 12 - 09:36 AM I suspect that they will also be un-co-operative. More false advertising! More seriously, are they freezable? If so they may still be of use come Xmas. |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: JennieG Date: 27 Sep 12 - 05:35 PM Christmas in July has become popular here - Ozzies are used to Christmas in summer but some folkses hanker for a winter Christmas, so Christmas in July dinners are the go in some places. Hence, mince pies in July (and since). Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 27 Sep 12 - 06:25 PM If a person likes mince pies, is she supposed to deny herself the pleasure of eating one because it's not the conventional time of year? That doesn't make sense. Go ahead, enjoy life's simple pleasures. |

From: frogprince Date: 27 Sep 12 - 07:11 PM "If a person likes mince pies, is she supposed to deny herself the pleasure of eating one" A slice of one is one thing, but I do hope you don't eat one whole doggone pie every time it occurs to you that you like pie. : ) |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: Leadfingers Date: 28 Sep 12 - 05:31 AM Dean - In UK Mince Pies tend to be individual serving size |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 28 Sep 12 - 01:21 PM 'One whole pie...' My husband can eat TEN at one sitting! (But as Leadfingers says, they're tiny little things the size of a biscuit) He absolutely adores them and so I don't wait until Christmas (or 'Crimbo' as the men in prison used to call it when I visited them)I make them every couple of weeks or so. Bought ones aren't as nice. I make my own pastry AND mincemeat, so I know what goes into them! |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: banjoman Date: 29 Sep 12 - 07:09 AM Christmas comes earlier every year. I received a Christmas card from a charity which I support on 15th September when I was still on my (summer? holiday. Local supermarket is selling mince pies and the local pub is taking bookings for Christmas Dinner. I love mince pies and seek them out all year |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: Pete Jennings Date: 29 Sep 12 - 10:20 AM My mam used to make great mince pies, just like Eliza does. Shop-bought ones always seem to have too much filling to my taste... |
Subject: RE: BS: Christmas has come early! From: melodeonboy Date: 29 Sep 12 - 08:28 PM A Christmas tree! Spotted in the Bridgewood Hotel in Chatham (Kent) on 28th. September. By the way, it wasn't mince pies that caught my attention. I eat (and make) them all year round. It was the fact that they were labelled as Christmas mince pies. I went to buy a birthday card for my mum today, but the choice was very limited as three parts of the shop had been turned over to bloody Christmas cards! |
