A more "straight" version is sung by Johnny Horton, also on youtube.
I still prefer the original,composed by Jimmie Driftwood (James Corbitt Morris), the teacher who composed songs like "The Battle of New Orleans" to raise the interest in history of his students.

The "battle" took place two weeks after peace had been declared.

My wife is a history teacher, they were doing a session on the war of 1812. She played the video for the kids. Her classroom was laughing so hard ... they had a lot of fun with it

I love this recording. I think the video is supposed to resemble heaven, looking at the smoke (clouds) and the white suits.

It featured in a film,"A Town Called Hell" starring Telly Savalas,Robert Shaw and Stella Stevens. A low budget Spaghetti Western which has a cult following today.

There IS a town called Hell! It's in western Canada. A lot of Germans settled around there, and the word "hell" has a completely different meaning in German than it does in English.

I get the concept of that video---those are the GHOSTS of the militia at the battle singing of their long ago exploits!!

LH--there is also Hell in Norway. I read that in Ripley's when I was a tyke. It's still there according to Wiki (although I know many here don't consider that a credible source).

There is no Hell in western Canada. IN B. C. there is a location on the RR called Hell's Gate, but no town.

There is a Hell in Norway, a village. Their postoffice does a good business postmarking mail.

The is one in England, it is where my mother in law lives, everyone else calls it Alderley Edge in Cheshire, but visiting her can be hell !

I've been to Hell and back. It's just past The Washout at the back of Partridge Flats. Ya go north to the east turn and pick a trail northwest through the woods, listen for the beaver dam and cross it. There is a HUGE alder swamp on the other side that is absolutely LOADED with partridge... and blow-down bog spruce. It's Hell, even for a teenager.

Well I had one today, over the river and through the woods on a salmon mission ... didn't see a dang fish not one ... water is so low even with the rain the fish didn't come up ... never saw this before. I was up and down the cliff's over logs wading up to my hips, tripping over rocks and downed trees ... nothing   bad fishin day for sure .. now where is my pain meds LOL
