Subject: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bobert Date: 10 Jan 13 - 07:34 PM Okay, we have one going on the Corvair so I reckon it's only appropriate to have it's Ford counterpart since both were introduced in 1960... My dad was Ford factory man and I saw my first Falcon on the 12th floor of the old ESSO building on Constitution Ave where it had been taken via a car elevator... I took one look at it and knew that I was going to have a hard time defending it with my Chevy school buds... I mean, I thought it was ugly... But, hey... Buy '67 I owned a used '6O Falcon... Other than having to adjust the valves a lot it was okay... But before that, in '64 my dad had ordered up a poppi red Mustang for me and my mom to share... I hated it... I never liked the looks of Mustangs... None of them... So I told my dad pretty much that the Mustang sucked and so he asked me what I wanted... I told him I'd like the new '65 Falcon Futura and talked him into seeing if it could be built with a bench seat, 4 speed and the 289/271 high performance engine... It got built... One of 8 that were built with that engine in '65... Great summer until... ...I went off to college and took my old Anglia down to Richomnd and left the Falcon for my mom... Not my choice... Of well, so much for my history with Falcons... Yours??? B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Ed T Date: 10 Jan 13 - 07:49 PM I liked the size and looks of the earlier/smaller 64-65 Falcons. But, I never cared much for the looks of the Mercury Comets, or the larger and later Falcons, after 65 they seemed Fairlaine sized. My neighbour had a 64 convertible that I always liked (I had a 64 Mustang at the time, that I liked less). I asked him to let me know if he ever wanted to sell it. He didn't and sold it to a guy who used it for drag racing. Whe I asked him why he did not offer it to me, he said he never liked selling cars to friends, in case it did not work out. I understood, but felt bad that a nice car was lost to drag racing. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bobert Date: 10 Jan 13 - 08:01 PM We're getting closer and closer to the Dodge Dart... B;~) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: ChanteyLass Date: 10 Jan 13 - 08:42 PM I learned to drive on my parents' maroon Ford Falcon. It had an automatic transmission. Just to be sure I could drive anything, as soon as I got my license they made me learn to drive their standard transmission VW Bug. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bobert Date: 10 Jan 13 - 08:49 PM The VW bug was the better of the two... B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: GUEST,marks(on the road) Date: 10 Jan 13 - 09:06 PM What a trip down memory lane. My Dad bought a 60 Falcon, black, with a 144 cid 6 and a two speed auto trans. Should have seen Dad, Mom, me and three sisters packed into that thing to go on a vacation trip. No A/C of course, but Dad kept his beers under the front seat! Mark |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: gnu Date: 10 Jan 13 - 09:09 PM I had a Bug. 1st car. Couldn't kill it with a stick. Great in snow and it slogged thru the back country. I would trade my fancy Ford piece a shit computerized truck fer that old Bug in a heartbeat. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bobert Date: 10 Jan 13 - 09:10 PM Beers under the seat, Mark??? Man, the floor in that car was hot from the exhaust under it... Warm beer, warm beer, getcha warm beer here... B:~) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: GUEST,mark-s(on the road) Date: 10 Jan 13 - 09:17 PM Right on Bobster, right on. And when he would open one with a church key, the spray would go allllll over the back seat! Picture it - a beer and the wheel in one hand and the opener in the other, while on the parkway! Thinking about stuff like this it is a wonder those of us of our seasoned vintage ever made it out of our childhoods! No seatbelts or padded dash in that beast either! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: EBarnacle Date: 11 Jan 13 - 01:49 AM Had a black '61. Rusted all to shit but I was able to keep up with a Maserati Ghibli on a winding road. There was so much rust that when it rained, my feet were wet--from the top. The area near the ventilation plenum was rusted through. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: kendall Date: 11 Jan 13 - 05:30 AM Never owned a Falcon or a Corvair, but I did have a 1976 Valiant. Nice car. They made a major change that year but I don't remember what it was. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: ranger1 Date: 11 Jan 13 - 08:21 AM Falcons were a bit before my time. However, in college (1988-1992), one of my best friends had a '62. Coolest car on our tiny campus, in my opinion. I'm pretty sure he still has it and probably still in running condition. A bit later, an ex-boyfriend had a '65. He sold it, wish he'd offered it to me. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bobert Date: 11 Jan 13 - 09:15 AM Yeah, the 64-65s were the best of the lot in terms of style... I also had a '66 that I bought in 1972... It hadn't rusted yet but the paint was in poor condition so I repainted it with a 4 inch brush which turned out pretty nice... B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: gnu Date: 11 Jan 13 - 01:28 PM I saw a Mustang hit a Falcon... horseshit and feathers everywhere! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 11 Jan 13 - 02:51 PM Where I lived and went to high school in the late '60s, all the Ford loving street-rodders had Fairlanes. I don't remember any hot-rodded Falcons. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Nancy King Date: 11 Jan 13 - 05:31 PM When I was in college (mind you, that was a long time ago), one of my roommate's relatives had a Falcon. They all referred to it as the "Ford Foulcar." |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Ed T Date: 11 Jan 13 - 05:43 PM Early North American cars were better "hump cars" -much better than the Europeans, or cars today. They also had more head room. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ford Falcon... From: Bobert Date: 11 Jan 13 - 06:01 PM Yeah, Beeze... The Fairlanes were hot... In '66 you could get them with a 390 cu. in engine... Yeah, Beeze... I guess that's why I wanted one... It was different... And it pissed off the guys who had big muscle cars because in a drag race the Falcon would eat just about any of them with the 289/271 mil...
