It sure sounds like the kind of thing that happens to them...

2 men arrested near Midland, Ontario for...

Says they're both 43 years old. Are Don and Shame twins? If so, they'd be identical twins and I don't think the world is ready for twice as much ugly.

Hmmm. No. Well, maybe it was a couple of their buddies, then.

It's still an awful lot of ugly...

What a bizarre phrasing of a story. They don't say whether these items were loose, in packages, burned or not (like the picture). Enquiring minds want to know.

So what exactly is "unmarked tobacco"? Weird or what?

"unmarked tobacco" tobacco without a Revenue Canada seal on the package indicating that the excise and (if required)import taxes have been paid.

I can just picture it. Two idiots and a car full of unmarked cigarettes. Two rather smug cops, thinking, "This has made my day! I can't wait to tell the guys back at the station."

It's a classic Canadian tale worthy of Trailer Park Boys.

Meanwhile, helicopters are used to whisk prisoners away.

Two 43 year old smugglers and tax cheats caught in the act. I don't watch "Trailer Park Boys" does it involve middle aged criminals who should know better?

Since when is 43 middle-aged? 43 is just 30-something that spent too many afternoons in the beer parlour. Just like you-know-who.

You don't watch Trailer Park Boys, Jack?????????????????? Never????

You gotta be kidding.

No, seriously, Jack....rent the first season of TPB at the video store. Please. Watch at least the first 2 episodes of that season before you decide about it...if by that point you don't think it's downright hilarious, well, all you'll have lost is 5 bucks. Try it.

It is about a few individuals a bit down on their luck. They all live in a seedy trailer park somewhere in Atlantic Canada. The two primary characters are seeking what they term "Freedom 35" (retirement at age 35) through a series of really dumb minor crimes, illegal scams, etc...they're harmless, but troublesome, and the local cops are after them pretty much all the time.

It is the main characters who make the show. You get quite fond of them after awhile, and you have to remember...although most of what they do is collosally stupid...it doesn't seem at all stupid to them! No sir. It seems like a good idea at the time. They just don't have a very wide horizon working for them, that's all.

So rent it. Please. I can't bear the thought of a good man not getting to see at least the whole first season of Trailer Park Boys.

So these guys do stupid things, like have their crimes videotaped and broadcast? And they do this for free?

Pull the other one so I don't limp when I walk.

Uh...Rap? There is still such a thing as admittedly scripted fiction on TV in some countries, as opposed to the scripted fiction passed off as "reality" that has pretty much taken over U.S.ian TV.

But 3,000 cigs is only 15 cartons. That's 7.5 cartons each for two guys and if it was intended to be a month's supply they're actually fairly moderate smokers.

Not exactly a major bust.

John

No, Rap, it is NOT reality TV! It's a scripted show with professional actors playing some doofuses in a trailer park, and it's very, very funny...specially after you get to know the various characters and appreciate where they're coming from.

The thing that's funny about it is...it's not that far off from real life...just a few inches over, you might say, in order to provide more laughs. They talk like the real thing, act like the real thing, formulate disastrous plans to "get ahead" like the real thing, have fun like the real thing. The main difference from real life is, nobody gets killed, and their lives are a bit funnier and frankly, a lot less tragic than the real thing...cos this is a TV show, and it's meant to entertain.

By "the real thing", by the way, I do not mean "people who live in trailer parks". What I mean is: not terribly smart somewhat young men who are ex-cons and unemployed unfortunates who have never had what it takes to get a real job, finish high school, have a functioning marriage, or avoid constantly being in trouble with the cops and generally screwing up...because they basically haven't had experience doing anything else. They think that growing dope in the house and siphoning gas and stealing barbecues will make them rich someday. It probably isn't that they were "born stupid", but rather that their growing up experiences and family surroundings just didn't lead them in the right direction.

Kind of like Shane and Don. But the TPBoys are actually kind of lovable once you get to know them. They're honestly doing what they REALLY think IS the best thing to get their lives together at any given time.

Julian (the leader) has real talents. Women all like him for whatever reason, despite his undependable lifestyle, because he's just cool, that's all, and he is courageous when courage is needed. He also never spills his rum and coke drink, not even when he rolls the car (which happened once or twice during high speed maneuvers avoiding cops).

Ricky has real talents too. He can talk circles around cops and judges so they usually don't end up arresting him when they should or convicting him either, and he grows truly excellent dope...when he's living under someone else's roof...and not in his car. He also loves his daughter Trinity dearly and intends to teach her all he knows so she can "get ahead" too.

Then there's Bubbles. Bubbles is one hell of a nice guy, although a little odd. He wears coke bottle thick glasses, and he loves kitties. He makes a very meagre living fixing old damaged shopping carts that he sort of...finds...and then selling them to the grocery stores near where he "found" them. He rescues lots of kitties and lives inside a little storage hut like you would keep garden equipment in.

Then there's J-Roc. He's a white kid (I mean WHITE...almost albino) who thinks he's a black rapper, and he talks and acts like he's from Watts. His best buddies are 2 black guys from Jamaica who also live in the trailer park. They deal dope at really excellent prices and hold rap concerts now and then and attempt to make money by doing underground films with titles like "From Russia with the Love Bone".

You can't help but like these guys as you get to know them...while thanking your lucky stars you are not in their spot in life.
