Joan Chandos Baez Sr., who has the same name as her famous folksinger daughter, died yesterday at her home in Woodside, CA at age 100. A good long life well lived. Sincere condolences to her family.

Joan Chandos Baez, Senior, passed away just days after her 100th birthday on Saturday, April 20, at 11:40pm in her home in Woodside, Cailfornia.

A huge celebration took place a week earlier, on the property, amidst oak trees, spring flowers and 100 brightly colored balloons. A hundred and fifty friends and family sang "Happy Birthday" to her, the notes echoing downhill past the chickens, and on farther to the creek, and then throughout the oak trees.

She once wrote the following:

"WHEN I JOIN THE HEAVENLY BAND

Friends who want to celebrate my new adventure, please gather round.
Don't grieve, for it's only a worn out body that's leaving and the memory of any sad times goes with it.
The good memories are in my spirit and my spirit is with you today.
I'm in your midst, for there's nothing more valuable to me than to be with you, my beloved family and my gracious friends.

Take a moment for silence and wish me well. I'll hear you. Then make the bottles pop.
You know I love champagne almost as much as I love you!

Not sure what else she did but giving birth to and raising up Little Joan and Mimi and living to 100 are pretty notable feats. Rest easy.

I am also in Calif. and have been a long time fan of Joan Baez.

It is indeed sad to hear this news about Joan's mother.
I believe Joan Baez Senior was living with Joan Baez at her home in Woodside. Just glad that Joan had her mother live to be 100.
I know they were very close she will miss her terribly.
It is so hard to lose your mother and I think of this as I remember my dear mother who died in 1994.

Beside Joan and Mimi, Joan Senior also raised her oldest daughter, Pauline.

May Joan Baez,Senior rest in peace and see her daughter Mimi in heaven.

I'm not sure there WAS a Joan Chandos Baez Sr.
Joanie's mum was (Scottish) Joan Bridge, later known as Joan Bridge Baez. IN any case, deepest condolences from a big fan not only of Joanie but of Dick and Mimi.

Guest Scottish Philly, you may be correct, but the above quote from Joan The Younger's own Facebook page gives her mother the name Joan Chandos Baez, and that's how it appears in her obituary. Perhaps she chose to amend her middle name before her daughter Joan was born?
All of Joan the younger's early original songs ("Diamonds and Rust," "For Bobby," etc.) are copyrighted in the name of her publishing company, Chandos Music ASCAP.

I believe Bridge was her maiden name. Chandos was her middle name-which she gave to Joan Jr

I'm sad to hear about the death from Joan Baez Sr. a fiew days after her 100th birthday. She was an extraordinary woman. Condolences to her family, especially to her daughter Joanie. I think, she was very close with her mother and it's a terrible time for her now.

Tia Joan was our favorite Aunt when we were a bunch of snotty nosed kids. Her Husband, "Al" was my mother's brother. Tia Joan maintained a wise, wacky, outlook on life, which made our visits to the "Bazooies" an absolute joy. She certainly will rest in peace, I can just see her kicking up her heels, drinking champagne, and singing with the angels.
