I fully expected to see his Obit here already. But here goes:

LA Times Story Here

I'm sure that kids today would laugh at the special effects that Harry was known for - but it was ground breaking state of the art stuff when it was new in the theaters. Film makers owe him a huge debt.

Wes, I saw this on facebook last week and didn't think to post it here.

When we were kids, back in the old days when we had 13 channels via cablevision, Saturday afternoons were when the old B movies were played on the second tier local channels across the region. Who knew there were as many Roman epics and Tarzan movies and Jungle Jim flicks - Harryhausen contributed to that glut, but his stop action effects brought his films to the next level. I went to see Jason and the Argonauts in a theater in a retro series - what a treat to see it on the big screen!

The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad remains a favorite 40 years after I saw it at the drive-in when I was four. So much so that I have owned it on VHS and now DVD. Jason and the Argonauts rates pretty high, too.
