??? A person from Toronto is a Torontonian. One from Glasgow is a Glaswegian. One from Berlin is a Berliner. One from Paris is a Parisienne. What the hell is one from Schenectady?

Have you ever been there, MMario? Impressions? I think I may have been there once, but I can't really remember for sure, it was so long ago.

If he did something reasonable, call him 'a Schenectady resident.'

If not, 'a Schenectady man.' As in, 'Police stopped a Schenectady man today and informed him he had been driving with his infant son on his car roof.'

'Schenectady' seems to have meant 'beyond the Pines' in Algonquin ...so....ummmm

Well, someone from Pocatello is a Pocatellan, someone from Chicago is a Chicagoan, someone from Kansas City is a KCer, someone from Idaho Falls is an Idaho Fallen, someone from Twin Falls is a Twin Fallen, so someone from Schenectady would be, obviously, a New Yorker.

There are several towns near where I live whose names don't lend themselves to the usual "er" or "ian" suffixes, so I've invented my own names for their residents:

If you live in Opp, Alabama, you're an Oppulent.

If you live in Pace, Florida, you're a Patient.

If you live in Jay, Florida, you're a Jaybird.

If you live in Foley, Alabama, you're a Foliant. If you used to live there, you're an ex-Foliant, and the process of moving away is ex-Foliating.

Bill, I believe such a person could be a Fleming. King Stephen had an army of mercenary Flemings to fight against Matilda in the 12th century.

Well, apparently it was originally called "Sgachnectatich" by the Algonquins, and since they were there first you'd be better asking, "What d'y' call someone from Sgachnectatich".

How do you know they were there first? ;-) There might've been someone else there before them. Chongo says that Chimps discovered everything a long time ago while humans were still crawling around in the dirt looking for bugs, and that the Chimps simply decided they didn't want it all, "coz we're like that...generous to a fault".

Well, when you grow up less than 5 miles from a city, you sometimes learn these things. (And sometimes, you just think do, but I'm right about this... probably.)

IIRC, that would be a "Flamand"

As for Schenectady, "Jumbuck", which, according to legend was the response from an Aborigine chief, when asked what a sheep was (an animal he was seeing for the first time).

According to the legend, "Jumbuck" is Aborigine for "Fucked if I know!"
