Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: Rapparee Date: 02 Aug 13 - 11:29 PM See, I've got this trumpet. It's pretty old, but it's in great shape. A deep, deep blue sheen with silver like stars in the bell and if you look into the bell long enough you'll be sucked in as if it were a whirlpool. I don't play it. The guy I got it from (in a bar, as collateral on a small loan) told me about it. He (or may it was she, it was hard to tell in that bar) said when it was played...well, never mind. She or he said "I'll be back for it when I get around to it. In the meantime, use your own horn -- that 1929 Conn job you have. And thanks for the hundred. I mean that!" Interesting that he or she knew about my horn. Kat probably knows about it too, now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: ranger1 Date: 01 Aug 13 - 11:03 PM That hole is there to allow the hideous squid farts to escape without asphyxiating the lot of us. I think squiddy has been taking lessons from 'Spaw. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: ChanteyLass Date: 01 Aug 13 - 10:47 PM Yes, they are all up there in the sky! I never noticed the hole in the tavern's roof, though. Now we can get away from those darling but noisy dogs and still see those stars. I'd like a skylight installed where that hole is. Great video and song, gnu. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: ClaireBear Date: 31 Jul 13 - 02:52 PM Doesn't that dial go up to 11? I've been enjoying this very smoky single malt and pondering the stars, more specifically, those anomalies over there -- see? -- in the Squid Nebula. I'm no astronomer, but I think you're right, Chanteylass and Rap! They are indeed up there. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: ChanteyLass Date: 29 Jul 13 - 09:50 PM Before we go inside, I want to take another look for the new star in the sky I first spotted when I left the tavern on the 22nd. Yes, it's still there, twinkling and shining brightly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: Janie Date: 29 Jul 13 - 09:22 PM Is it possible (and do we even want to try) to move back inside and leave the damn dogs outside? Excuse me - I meant to say the darlin' canines. I'm hungry, but can't seem to get a bite in as the fearsome little pointy-nosed beasties snatch the barbecued dino right off my plate. A little discipline, please?! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: GUEST Date: 29 Jul 13 - 12:08 AM As long as we are around the campfire, Kat, I must dedicate my favorite song in the entire world to you. From what I hear, you will smile. He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother The road is long With many a winding turn That leads us to who knows where Who knows where But I'm strong Strong enough to carry him He ain't heavy, he's my brother So on we go His welfare is of my concern No burden is he to bear We'll get there For I know He would not encumber me He ain't heavy, he's my brother If I'm laden at all I'm laden with sadness That everyone's heart Isn't filled with the gladness Of love for one another It's a long, long road From which there is no return While we're on the way to there Why not share? And the load Doesn't weigh me down at all He ain't heavy he's my brother |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: Janie Date: 28 Jul 13 - 08:32 PM Ain't that little bit sweet, Sandra. But Oh, the cacophony! should acknowledge that our Kat "grokked" the cacophony of the universe. I bet the weinerdog/trumpet band, complete with flailing swords can join in on this one. Everybody, raise your tankards, mugs, stemware, or mason jell glass in a toast as we sing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUa8mbgKex8 the squid and the duck are doing quite well with the tamborine and the shakee eggs. |

Here I am in the Northumberland Public Library with more tears than I have a handkerchief for. MIght as well grab my guitar and head down to the tavern. I'm not a drinking man, but if anyone needs a designated driver lately I think I make it through the tears. Kat was with us a long time. I never met her, but it was clear to me that she had a large heart and truly cared for others. I'm of an age, as are many of us in the folk world, where this is going to happen more often. A dear one has passed. The world is sadder for her passing, but not sadder for her living in it. I'll strum some blues chords behind Amos and maybe EJ will bring some harps. I do so love this place. Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Jul 13 - 01:05 AM Kat wasn't a paragon of virtue - she was a smart generous woman who was no one's fool. We can stand a little Irish humor infusing the occasion, I do believe. SRS P.S. - Spaw - if Gargoyle wants to write, he is welcome. No one is going to delete his posts. He has been very frank all along, and some of his recent posts were seen by Kat but removed by others to spare feelings of those not so close to the situation. They were honest but very grim. His message was understood. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Tavern special opening. From: Janie Date: 25 Jul 13 - 12:30 AM Always love your music, and your own great heart, Dan. And isn't that exactly what Kat did, here on Mudcat? What a salute, Rap! "Take a moment and behold." Yes! We need lots of big cotton and linen napkins and bar clothes. To wipe our eyes and noses, and clean up sloppy celebration. I'll just step out back to see if the squid has any stashed away in the closet where the jello is kept. If not, I'll send him to the laundromat. OK? Alternately, LEJ and Amos can rinse these out in the horse trough outside. Not much grease, the way MMario prepares the brontosaurus, and the rest of what got mopped up probably had enough ethol in it to not worry about. When the boys are done with their chores, mebbe they will play us a song of the west, a place they and Kat love well. O jeez, stop snoring, Sins! |
