Tonight I found out that I'm actually, seriously crazy. So did some other people. No one was hurt, but... I was in a reality altogether different than the other members of a moment we weren't even sharing. I expect I don't know what will come in the morning but I'm packing for whatever each next minute holds. I backed up mudcat and put it on my Dropbox account as one of my first tasks... :) ...assuming mudcat even exists...

I'm heading for wellness with both hands.

But did you really find out you were crazy? We had a friend once who was acting crazy. It was the result of diabetes. Something like that could be happening to you.

Maybe somebody dropped some "bad acid" in your beer last night. Maybe you are suffering the after-effects of a head injury.

Whatever it is, mental illness or something else, go to an expert and find out the real answer.

If you didn't already know you were batshit whacko, I'm surprised. Although it's possible you weren't aware that, although you've been a frequent rider on the crazy train, you didn't know all its stops.

You're driving the thing, though, so ride it somewhere better. If you sold my secrets to the NSA, bring them coffee--they're gonna need it. If you sold Mudcat to foreign investors, FU (unless they're Canadian). If you're in rehab, nothing matters more than getting healthy. If you went all-in on that dental floss farm, I hope it's the organic, non GMO stuff. And if the people you were with are good people, they'll delete the videos of the incident, or at least put a blurry dot thing over your face.

...and one last thing: I don't think you should go fishing any more. Every time you go out in the back of beyond to kill and eat things, something freaky happens.

My best wishes going out to you, Max. Three years ago, I was digging holes in the skin of my face during my sleep because of stress. I have scars from it. I thought I had a rash that would not heal, as it spread from all over my forehead to my eyelids. The third doctor I saw, a dermatologist, said, "That is from stress. You are digging into your skin in your sleep." I knew I was nuts from stress, but who would have thought that could happen, too?

No one else in the room could see what you were dealing with, so of course they're not going to get it. Let that go.

I don't know what it was either, whether the sensory or emotional inputs that were screwed up, or whether your processes weren't working they way they usually do or whatever--I do know that the trick is to figure out what is malfunctioning and develop alternate strategies.

If you are hearing voices that aren't there, figure out how to recognize the ones that are there and deal with them exclusively. If you're swamped with paranoiac fears, figure out how to sort them from the regular fears...etc.

Maybe some meds will help, and maybe it will pass, but till then,identifying the bad stuff and developing compensatory strategies is the way to go. I know, it's easy to say, but not so easy to do, but so much of life is like that. With effort and persistence, you can make it work, maybe not like before, but in a way you can live with.

There are way more of us out here keeping it together that way than you can possibly imagine...and you don't realize it, because most of the time, we are making it work.

At a time like this it is a good thing to reflect on the marvelous gift of himself that Max has given us with Mudcat. The opportunities it has provided me, the scholarship, the friendships, and even the verbal slugfests, they have all enriched my life beyond description. We used to refer to Mudcat as a village. In those days that was a good description. As Max deals with this "bump in the road" let all of us that consider this village of ours be as supportive and loving as possible. He has sacrificed much over the years to keep it going. He knew it was a lifeline for many.

Get well, buddy. We need you.

Max, so many of us appreciate and value what you have made possible for us with Mudcat. But don't mistake us saying that as meaning you and your well-being matter because you are the creator of the opportunity for this community to exist.

It is true we wouldn't know you or one another for the most part without you birthing and raising Mudcat. But the good thoughts, prayers, and intentions surrounding you now are not offered because we "owe" you. They are offered because we care about you. It simply happens that we know you because of this community.

Caring is not earned. It just is.

Well, Jeri. I had two reasons for posting what I was posting. First and foremost, to keep this thread very active so everyone gets to see it. Secondly, to try to add a little humour and let Max know, if he does check in, that people are keeping this thread at the top of the page because we care about him and, hopefully, giving him a laff or two.
