This is nothing huge in the big picture (and current MudWorld losses), but a kitteh some of you will recall from a delightful MudGather (who thoroughly scrubbed CET's nose there) will depart the planet a bit later this afternoon due to a long list of minor but expensive health issues which have finally made his days just too miserable to extend them. He's been such a nice kitteh.

I think there is a photo of cat/nose in the photo section somedamnwhere... he was very young that year but is quite old now.

We had suspected we might find this needful upon returning from vacay; we did indeed find him in misery when we returned yesterday afternoon... he and BFF Isis at least got to console each other while we were away (a friend fed them). So she may be sane enough to handle the new incumbents-- whose kittenhood is coming to a close, out in the storage area below Old MudDorm. I hope she can get one of them at least to groom her!

It was one of Atticus' favorite pursuits; they would have the cutest snuggles. A mountain of a cat using smaller him for a pillow, and him so happy to be surrounded by her warmth that he'd just groom her to death. But I guess she now weighs little enough to clean herself. (We originally got her with the proviso that we reduce her.)

Style.... today was set as the day we'd had a pair of Marty Stuart tickets waiting for our return, in a rare local appearance at the Fair. This means that each week as we enjoy his RFD show, we will have lots of reminders of one of the nicest kittehs we ever head-- a real gentleman and music lover.

All summer he got special perks, including an adventure outside of some days. Today he's been having a lovely day being spoiled, but (did he know?) has just holed up in the bathroom.... so it will be simple to catch and take him. This is one of the few kittehs we have loved enough to bury instead of sending him off to the crematory.... so I guess he's going along to the concert then, eh? On his way back home under the tree where another Catter once tent-camped at another gathering.

Then when we get back home Isis can meet the new applicants for his position.

But they are not nose-polishers like CET's Atticus was. We'll see!

~Susan

Sorry to read this Susan. We just lost our 17 year cat, also named Isis, a couple weeks ago.

We could not find the basic cardboard carrier so Atticus made his last trip in a hot pink satchel I'd gotten free in a catalog shipment, and since it had also been baptized in exploding espresso during vacay it also became the perfect "casket". Hardi laid him to rest yesterday under Hyla's tree.

The 2 new young'uns are getting rotated in and out of various house sections to see which one wil biond with Atticus. They are not QUITE feral... vacay came at a bad time for their development. So they also each got some lap time and I have the bloody scratches to prove it. They are the fraternal twin runts of their litter, and both are Atticus color. One has a white tailtip and so it Tip, and the other, who is less "settled" on the lap, was dubbed Scratch. They are 12-week-olds who are 6-week size, and they have their mama OtherCat's long, LONG legs and svelte shape. Small and tall. OtherCat is a great momcat. She shepherded Scratch thru his "WHAT is this big livingroom I've never seen" adventure.

They have not yet started curtain climbing but the water-spritzer is ready to respond.

:~)

I've been down the same road, and that says it all.

I truly feel your loss.

My deepest sympathies.

My sincerest condolences. It's always rough. Thank goodness he knew you and you knew him and that he will live on as he has in this thread. RIP.

Thanks, all.

We have a policy here of replacing the older animals before they are infirm enough to suffer-- this makes it an easier decision.... what I mean is that we bring in the chose, prospective young-uns while the oldsters are around to teach them well.

Why that makes it easier to let the old ones go (not easy, just easiER) is that these younger ones do always need some focused attention from us when they take over their inherited spot, especially as the population adjusts to new alignments and feuds....

So this time for instance I am distracted from morbidly dwelling on Atticus' last day by a mad dash of yellow fur playing hard, thru the areas that used to be off limits to them, and peeping out from the upper reaches of the staircase balusters-- where AFAIK no kitteh of ours has ever played before.

You just have to laugh! Being surrounded by evidence of unpredictable life is good!
