The highway is notorious (good paved road but heavy traffic, large construction semis), and it takes many hours to drive up into northern Alberta, with a good chance of dozing off and having a wreck. Pop. 76,000 in 2010, adding a few thousand every year. Also look up Kearl Oil Sands Camp, Wapasu (youtube) where a new town for a new development is being built in the area. Interesting area, closest "access" to Wood Buffalo National Park. |
