Subject: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Aug 13 - 12:50 PM I'm getting fed up of the common 'Keep calm and...' stuff in England but there are still some very humourous messages on things. My two favourite T-shirts at the mo are "Salford - Like Paris without the tower' and 'Nice story Bilbo'. What really cracked me up the other day though was my daughters tea mug - Big picture of Lionel Ritchie and the slogan, 'Hello, is tea you're looking for'. Made me laugh anyway :-) Anyone got any more to share? Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 23 Aug 13 - 01:26 PM My sister sent my Ivorian husband a mug which said "I am a rock star, from Cote d'Ivoire". |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Mrrzy Date: 23 Aug 13 - 03:15 PM I need one of them mugs, ELiza! My favorite lately was made up by my younger twin son... I (a diseased and fatty heart) Burgers! |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Aug 13 - 04:45 PM Sorry, I am an old noggin, my second T actually says COOL story, Bilbon. Means something apparently... :D tG |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,dmcg Date: 23 Aug 13 - 05:30 PM I've seen a mug with with a drawing of a long legged bird and the slogan "Egrets, I've had a few.." |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 23 Aug 13 - 05:33 PM I saw a tea towel with a picture of a market stall and the Eiffel Tower. There was only one fruit left on the stall, and the caption said, "Last Mango In Paris". |

Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 23 Aug 13 - 05:54 PM The artist Simon Drew did loads of funny puns on T shirts, aprons etc. I've just looked him up. One that made me laugh was a picture of Noah waiting in his ark while a Land Rover approaches filled with giraffes, elephants, gorillas etc. The caption says "The Animals Came In 4X4". Another one has two bulls face to face. It's captioned "Beef Encounter". |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: JennieG Date: 23 Aug 13 - 06:20 PM For some really good puns check out the art of Ray Troll: Ray Troll On our so far one-and-only visit to Alaska in 2006 I saw a Ray Troll t-shirt with a picture on it of Mona Lisa cradling a large fish.......caption was "The Da Vinci Cod". At the time the Dan Brown book was all the rage, which made it doubly funny. In a small village just south of my town, Wallabadah, I have seen bags with the caption : London Paris Rome New York Wallabadah |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Gurney Date: 23 Aug 13 - 06:39 PM A guy I knew had two T-shirts I liked. One had a music staff and the words 'Bum-titty-bum-titty-bum-bum-bum.' Guess how the notes were pictured. The other simply said 'Pobody's Nerfect.' |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 24 Aug 13 - 06:14 AM LOL All these are so funny! Gurney, your Spoonerism is like a tea towel picturing a half-melted motorbike drooping down. The caption was 'Dali Havidson'. |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: frogprince Date: 24 Aug 13 - 08:48 AM An all-time favorite Christmas card from an old friend: the outside showed a Holstein cow in biker gear on a motorcycle; the text inside, "Wreck the malls with cows on Harleys". |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Aug 13 - 10:17 AM On a badge I saw at one Fylde Festival years ago "Whale Oil Beef Hooked" Still make me smile. DtG |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 25 Aug 13 - 06:54 AM LOL again! 'He works fer Cunard' ? |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: JohnInKansas Date: 25 Aug 13 - 12:39 PM Gurney's contribution is also given in an old joke as: "titty-rump, titty-rump, titty rump rump rump." The variation, of course, raises the question of which is the authentic lyric and which is the parody. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: ChanteyLass Date: 25 Aug 13 - 09:04 PM When I went online to find the correct pronunciation of the Vietnamese soup pho, I learned from several sources that it is pronounced fuh, I also read that a group of young men had t-shirts made up for themselves that said Pho Kings. |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: GUEST,imbikertrash Date: 08 Dec 13 - 09:26 PM frogprince, i gave the cards out with cows on harleys back in the late 80s or early 90s. do you by any chance remember who printed them ? |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Ebbie Date: 08 Dec 13 - 10:54 PM JennieG, Ray Troll is a fairly-local favorite. Every year he comes to the Alaska Folk Festival and does an off the wall set onstage. As you probably know, almost all his art is fish related, so the people he has traipse onstage depict all kinds of strange critters, complete with garish colors and bizarre headgear. His sister lives in Juneau- I don't think she is as far out as he is, she is more of a political activist. They must be an interesting family. :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: JohnInKansas Date: 09 Dec 13 - 03:23 AM I did a quick image search on Google for "cows on Harleys" but the only marginally applicable image in the result was a very large Hooters waitress ... At the moment, LiK is watching a video of Willie Nelson, Johnnie Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson - the original "Highwaymen" - in clips from some documentary. Willie is wearing a shirt in one segment that says "My Heroes Have Always Killed Cowboys." John |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Dave the Gnome Date: 09 Dec 13 - 07:06 AM Bought myself a new T the other day - Glenfillet single trout. Not as funny to people that don't know but in the family if anyone asks what I want to eat or what to cook I always say trout. It is a 'Weird Fish' T anyway and goes with my Weird Fish pullover. :D tG |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: frogprince Date: 09 Dec 13 - 07:41 PM I suppose this is blatant self-promotion, as this is my stuff, but... wutthehell... |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: JohnInKansas Date: 09 Dec 13 - 08:51 PM I had to look up who Edward T is, but he expresses my sentiments: Every Time You ... . I may have to see about getting it on a coffee cup. Just so you won't have to look him up: Edward Tufte Statistician Edward Rolf Tufte is an American statistician and professor emeritus of political science, statistics, and computer science at Yale University. He is noted for his writings on information design and as a pioneer in the field of data visualization. Wikipedia Born: March 14, 1942 (age 71), Kansas City, MO Parents: Virginia Tufte Education: Yale University (1968), Beverly Hills High School, Stanford University A number of clever bits I can remember seem to have been copyrighted, and although Google Images finds thumbnails, they can't be linked readily. I might have to resort to unsavory places to refresh my memory on a couple of them. I did find one image that might be appropriate for the "Cows on Harleys" idea, but there's no indication whether it's available for purchase: Harley Cow page or Image only John |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: JohnInKansas Date: 10 Dec 13 - 06:10 PM Spotted another that struck an instant agreement while out shopping today. This one was on a wooden sign for hanging in the barn before the shindig: REAL COWBOYS DON'T LINEDANCE. It was right beside "Never Kick a Cow Chip on a Hot Day.) Wisdom from the prairies. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Funny prints on stuff From: Bill D Date: 10 Dec 13 - 07:16 PM Just an aside about pages & links.... I can't get ANY images on the supposed Harley/cow pages John links to... even with my blocking software disabled.....and... The page frogprince links to shows me no direct images, but when I 'view source' (Ctrl-U), I get hundreds of lines of code with tons of javascript included with links like this: http://rlv.zcache.com/god_is_my_co_pilot_bumper_sticker-r964a53c8da4949eb9667ab2d9fb6cf93_v9wht_8byvr_324.jpg embedded in the code... which allow me to C&P and actually view an image. (I realize, frogprince, that YOU didn't create the situation.... I just now & then need to vent my frustration at pages which require you to not mess with ANY settings if you want to browse their pages.) I simply do not understand why they can't make simple links and display relevant images without 14 layers of restrictions built in! (hit ctrl-U and look at the bottom few hundred lines (in red on my PC) to get an idea of how hard they work to control how & when you can access the content.) I suppose that somewhere in my settings, I have disabled one or more of their cookies, javascript ramblings or search parameters that allow them to identify and/or follow me.... but I'll be danged if I am gonna work to find out which ones. There are plenty of sites which do NOT do this.) Ok... rant over. |
