Subject: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: Peter Kasin Date: 17 Oct 13 - 02:24 PM It's great to be back serving the public at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park! Now that the shutdown is over, all national parks are re-opening. Come visit, and discover your historical, cultural and natural history. http://www.nps.gov has information on all the U.S. national parks. -Chanteyranger |
Subject: RE: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: GUEST,sciencegeek Date: 17 Oct 13 - 02:41 PM glad to have you guys back on the job... shame we don't see some of the worst members of congress recalled - they get paid to do absolutely nothing except try to bring down our democracy. This country was formed due to a rebellion against the rule of the privileged few... and they want to return to that very bad idea. It's a shame that while civil servants know that they work for the public, too many politicians think that the public should bow to their whims. |

Subject: RE: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: Rapparee Date: 23 Oct 13 - 07:34 AM Come! Please!! And as one who lives near Yellowstone and Tetons, I ask only these things of you: 1. Be nice, and carry out what you carry in by foot or by vehicle. 2. Don't assume the animals or the people are tame. 3. Bring lots and lots of money and spend it freely. You'll be glad you came. |

Subject: RE: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Oct 13 - 06:51 AM I'd love to see Yellowstone. Been to the Lake of the Ozarks but I understand that is tiny by comparison. Living almost on the Pennies (Englands 'great divide') I would also love to see that much bigger one over yonder. Just a question, or maybe more of an observation. Out national parks, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, Peak District etc. seem to run quite happily with very little human intervention. Do the US national parks really need to be manned for anyone to visit them? Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: BrendanB Date: 24 Oct 13 - 06:54 AM I was on the East Coast during the shutdown and our holiday was hardly impaired at all. However, it was intersting to note the number of Americans who apologised to us for the behaviour of US politicians. A friend who was on the West Coast flew into Seattle intending to spend three weeks visiting some of the great national parks. After five days of frustration he gave up and drove into Canada where he discovered what a great city Vancouver is and had an equally good time on Vancouver Island. Next time he goes to North America he tells me he will head north of the border. So it goes.... |

Subject: RE: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Oct 13 - 05:59 AM To take DtG's point further, if the national parks are public land, by what right does a government close them? |
Subject: RE: BS: National parks re-opened. Come visit! From: dick greenhaus Date: 27 Oct 13 - 12:53 AM Richard Bridge- The national parks exist on Federal Government land; the forest rangers and maintenance staff are government employees. The roads through the parks are built ansd maintained by the government. Who in hell do you think the "public" is? Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 km2) For perspective, England occupies 50,346 sq miles (130,395 km²) |
