Subject: RE: Good site for Kid Tunes From: MandolinPaul Date: 14 Nov 99 - 10:48 AM Anyone know how to save the midi files from that site, to my hard drive? I can't seem to do it like I can with the ones from the DT. |
Subject: RE: Good site for Kid Tunes From: Tiger Date: 14 Nov 99 - 10:57 AM Paul - if you've just listened to the MIDI file, a copy will be in your browser's cache. You can then Copy/Paste to where you'd like it (prolly rename it, too). Suggest you view the brower cache with most recent entries first. It should be a simple matter to find the recently-retrieved MIDIs. BTW, this works for lots of other stuff, too, like lyrics. .....Tiger |
Subject: RE: Good site for Kid Tunes From: Tiger Date: 14 Nov 99 - 11:03 AM Paul - one further note. If you wanted LOTS of MIDIs, you could temporarily change the cache location to a folder called, perhaps, "New MIDIs". Then go back to the MIDI site and view 'em all (not necessary to the entire song). Then print the web page they're indexed on, so you'll know the order in which they occur, and what the titles are. Now go back to your browser setup and redirect the cache folder back to it's original location. In your "New MIDI's" folder, you'll have a slew of .MID files, plus a few odds 'n ends like HTMLs and Gifs (which can be easily deleted). Then use your printed index and go back into the folder to give everything the name you want. Good luck......Tiger |

Subject: RE: Good site for Kid Tunes From: Lesley N. Date: 14 Nov 99 - 02:53 PM Well, I am the only one not pleased by this site. I find it unforgivable that they don't credit the sequencers of the midis. The sequencer is not hard to establish - if you have Crescendo you can click on the Song Information. If the sequencer put their name in, it is there. If they put it there it means they care about getting credit. I despise sites that take other people's work and give them no credit. This is a sore subject for me. I've had a lot of stuff taken (Barry Taylor has people take his entire site - without a single credit to him). There is very often no request, credit, acknowledgement or a link to my site. I love to spread the music - but I don't feel acknowledgement is too much to ask.

Subject: RE: Good site for Kid Tunes From: _gargoyle Date: 14 Nov 99 - 10:46 PM Ahhh,. and Leslie....did you in turn...as "sequencher" give credit and royalties to the original creators?
If you have given, then take freely, you deserve to share in the bounty....share and share and share alike. |
Subject: RE: Good site for Kid Tunes From: Lesley N. Date: 15 Nov 99 - 06:08 PM Every single midi that I have created has the source I used for the the music (and the source for any information) - whether it was full arrangement or single line meldoy. (I am a historian - I footnote because I consider my pages one huge research paper.) All but one or two midis that I have on my page has who sequenced it - there are only two that are anonymous (I could not track them down). I have contacted every single sequencer on my pages (two, I believe were returned with the e-mail address unknown). I have also put links to their personal pages or to their e-mail - for those that have a current one (some pages/addresses have died since).
The purpose of this is not just to give credit where credit is due - but also to expose people to resources they might otherwise miss and to other people's sites. When I first started folk music resources were extremely rare and I was glad to point people in other directions. I still am.
Several of the midis at the site have KNOWN sequencers who are not acknowledged. Brian Hick's has a copyright notice in his midis and he is not acknowledged. Barry Taylor did several and he is not acknowledged - though he asks that this be done when people use his midis.... Most knowledgeable sequencers embedd author information in their midis - which makes it very easy to find. If they've done so I assume they prefer to be acknowledged as its creator. Share and share alike most certainly - but acknowledge those you benefit from - and give them benefit in return - whether it is personal pleasure they derive from having their work acknowledged and appreciated or by a link to their page. |
