It's horrible – either can't go all day/go about 3x. I got some white choc w/ strawberry oil, only had few sq but the pain in my stomach was like being pulled apart. Went next morning & was ok. Do any of you lot feel sick/snap @ people if/when you want to go, but can't?? |

Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 30 Dec 13 - 10:55 AM It could be that your body was giving you hints, but you weren't paying attention. Think about it, anyhow. I find that organic food can often be blamed for this. Last time it was 'natural, wild' blueberries. We have a tradition of having blueberry pancakes on Sunday morning. When I had diarrhea three Sundays in a a row about 7 pm, I threw away the blueberries and replaced them with bad, unnatural blueberries from the my local supermarket. No more diarrhea. Did you take some Peptobismol? It really works. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: Georgiansilver Date: 30 Dec 13 - 06:31 PM Interesting the spelling of Diarrhoea...... obviously different in the US but the same eh? :) :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: GUEST,Musket Date: 31 Dec 13 - 01:31 AM Just noticed that Georgiansilver. Two things spring to mind. I have always had a mental block with such words and my iPad autocorrect seems to have gone all American on me. (I don't proof read this stuff, perhaps I should. ) it didn't look right but I for one went with the flow. Secondly, perhaps for similar reasons, the spelling is creeping into British health publications. |
Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 13 - 06:58 AM Hiya, I agree w/ BC; I don't trust one *now* – I dread to think what I'll be like when i'm old. It's always like that – not just that either. I'd describe it as "tight but loose" – loose cos I never EVER feel "done", tight cos it never feels as if I've got it all out. It's horrible. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: Bill D Date: 31 Dec 13 - 06:00 PM "Interesting the spelling of Diarrhoea...... obviously different in the US but the same eh? " ".. the spelling is creeping into British health publications." Since I've been on Mudcat I've noticed the differences, and the general difference seems to be that American spelling tends to be more like the pronunciation. 'Diarrhoea' just looks hard to say... and 'centre' looks like 'sen-tray'. I'm sure that habit will make the sounds conform and the words look fine, but I suspect that international usage is gradually trending toward the least complex.. and shorter.. spelling. Honor instead of honour....etc. (isn't the original spelling like this: diarœa ... with that connected-letter symbol that no one uses much?) |

Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: Charley Noble Date: 02 Jan 14 - 10:09 AM For anyone with a "chronic" diarrhea problem, you may want to read this. My mother was having bi-weekly episodes for 5 years or so, with the frequency increasing to weekly in 2012. She's in her 90s and when things let loose it was no fun for her or anyone within range. Her doctors tried all kinds of medications and they were no help. Now my mother has been on antibiotics for years because of bladder infections. A family friend suggested she try eating a couple of helpings of live culture yogurt; she recommended a Greek brand and mother eats hers with maple syrup. Mother has not had a major episode of diarrhea in the last 9 months. Evidently the antibiotics were interring adversely with her digestive system. Mother's very pleased, and her doctor was quite pleased as well to learn of the success of this alternative treatment. Charlie Ipcar |
Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 02 Jan 14 - 01:33 PM Excellent advice, Charley. Antibiotics play havoc by killing all the 'good' natural digesting bugs in the gut. I was advised to take live yoghurt after two courses of very, very strong antibiotics to get rid of the giardia. If anyone goes abroad to Africa, India or places with dodgy hygiene/toilet facilities, any subsequent diarrhoea should be tested by the medical lab, as there is a long list of nasties, from parasites to dozens of tropical bacteria that might be having a lovely time in your tum! |

Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: Mr Red Date: 03 Jan 14 - 11:41 AM I have yoghurt every day. Since the last penicillin episode. Mind you I ask for moxicillin now, which is very rarely needed, most of my teeth have died already!. |
Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: PHJim Date: 03 Jan 14 - 02:14 PM Vance Gilbert sings: You ask an old man's advice Son, Here's a reasonable place to start. Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: Charley Noble Date: 03 Jan 14 - 04:45 PM Yes, while I was in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, back in the 1960s, I contracted amebic dysentery; you need more than yogurt to knock that one out. Still, it got me a medical deferment from being drafted out of the Peace Corps and into the Army. It wasn't all bad. Charlie Ipcar |
Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 03 Jan 14 - 04:59 PM Yoghurt would be completely ineffective against giardia, which is a delightful little parasitic beastie that makes new baby beasties every 3 days in your intestines. The result is yellow frothy diarrhoea, dreadful pain, fever and rapid loss of weight. Antibiotics kill it (you hope) but it can take more than one course. The yoghurt is for afterwards, to restore good bacteria so that normal digestion can continue. My husband has had dysentery, and although he's black he turned as pale as a ghost before it was dealt with. There really are some horrid things out there, just waiting to move in to your cosy warm tum! The worst thing about the giardia was that I had to sit on a plane from Ghana to Heathrow for several hours, trying in vain not to explode before I reached the loo. |
Subject: RE: BS: Sudden explosive diarrhea From: GUEST Date: 04 Jan 14 - 12:18 PM I was once entertained by tales told by a traveller recently home from India, regarding long car journeys where the driver needed to grimly sit on several layers of highly absorbent towels. |
