Stop playing the Race Card Sarah Palin.

Is the GOP starting a MLK day tradition? If so I'm tired of it already.

You're wrong, Akenaton, I laughed like a drain when I heard Hague was sent to Scotland to tell the Scots they would be worse off if they voted for Scottish Independence. He was the man who opposed Scottish devolution in 1979 and warned Scotland would be a "a high-tax ghetto"! Now, after admitting he was wrong, his excuse was that he didn't think the Scots were so resolute.

I fear sir, that you are rather behind the times.

She scared the crap out of pretty much every person of sound mind in the country and most of the World when it was thought that she had even a remote chance of being Vice President to a fairly feeble old man. Now she is feared only by the "Moderate" wing of the GOP and that is only because she calls attention to the nut jobs.

Palin in not exactly stupid... she IS ignorant, and that, to my mind is worse. She is steeped in the worst sort of cultish religious silliness... added to a devotion to 'making a $$$' from whatever she does.(much like Bachmann) She make no effort to educate herself about the world in general and just follows a system which seems to be largely defined by her husband (much like Bachmann).

She attracts others who also think that way, and can make $$$$ just showing up and spewing the Tea Party line... with a few polished "palinisms" thrown in.

Never could understand that?

I notice that if anyone here offers an alternative view on almost any subject, but especially politics, they are described as "spewing"...usually "filth"

Subject: RE: BS: Palin impies Obama is a Racist.

Why? Because it is an entirely different type of thinking and rhetoric, not just a different set of opinions. I could type for an hour trying to elucidate, but if you don't see the flawed and distorted premises and careless reasoning in their various bits of nonsense, all I'd get is sore fingers from typing.

When the serious conservative viewpoint was held and expounded by William F. Buckley, the debate was interesting and educational... but the current Tea Party line, and rabid, hate-filled accusations **spewed** by Palin, Bachmann, Louis Gohmert, Alan West and a dozen others are a travesty on what the basic conservative Republican party once was.

Ake.. I don't know if you read about.. or especially see videos.. of them just parroting falsehoods as they try to negate everything Obama does, but it is beyond appalling to someone like me who has followed politics since 1954 or so.

Sorry wasn't really concentrating, "liberal" line.

Bill, It is opinions. I think much of modern "liberalism" is flawed, distorted, idiocy, but I don't see any need to accuse you, or Don of "spewing" your opinions.

It looks to me that you think the opinions of members of the Tea Party are of less worth than your own. Would you not be better just to point out where you think your fellow citizens are wrong, rather than denigrate them in such a fashion......it just doesn't seem very liberal...if you know what I mean?

Actually, "race" played a very big part in the election of President Obama, as the black vote went almost completely to him, while the white vote was split 50/50 between Obama and Mccain.

I'm sure you are aware, that ALL politicians make capital from racial issues when it suits them.
I'm sure you are also aware by now, that President Obama is not the Messiah the left hoped he would be, in fact he has been a VERY naughty boy on several occasions?

Ake.. no... as I said, it is **NOT** just opinions. Just after I typed that above, I was watching the news and saw a report on this guy...

Robert Jeffress (look him up in Google for more)

He is but ONE of the sort of VERY extreme folk getting lots of air play in right-wing conservative circles. This sort of reasoning is not "just opinion". It is opinion based on lies & false premises and which these folks think is justified because they are 'on the right side'.
People are entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to make up facts to support their opinions.

And YOU have played fast & loose with facts in this:" .."race" played a very big part in the election of President Obama.. Stating percentages, even when accurate, doesn't serve to characterize the point of those statistics. Those numbers do show that McCain had very little support among minority voters... (Hispanics also voted largely Democratic.)

And this: "It looks to me that you think the opinions of members of the Tea Party are of less worth than your own."

Ummm...well...gosh... when I say that the basic Tea Party line is flawed, illogical & a distortion of truth, I am stating that "worth" is not a characteristic of ANY position based on lies, bad logic & distortion! These Tea Party folks are factually incorrect in their premises, no matter what my opinion is. I am willing to subject **MY** premises to the test of analysis of their accuracy, and to revise my opinions if needed. The Tea Party people tend to revise their description of reality and facts in order to support their hardened 'opinion'.
If you don't see the basic difference in the two positions, *shrug*, how can I even talk to you?

I am reminded of the guy who responded to his neighbor's request for an explanation as to why the tool he borrowed came back broken: "I never borrowed it... and besides, I returned it weeks ago... and it was broken when I got it."
Make sense? Who cares! I just refuse to agree with anything you say.

I think that because I have never heard Palin say an intelligent thing that wasn't designed to provoke. It is all nonsense and insults. "Spew" is a metaphor, but an understandable one.

You displayed considerable ignorance about her place in American society in stating that liberals fear her. She costs the GOP moderate votes and supported a couple of Senate candidates in primaries who won, only to Spew their way to losing the general election.

Saying that President Obama was born in Kenya is spewing. Saying she can see Russia from her house is spewing. Sarah spews.

If you are looking for someone to champion in US conservatism, you could not do worse than Palin.

If you are looking for someone to represent blind liberalism you could not do worse than Bill D.

Jack, I have been here long enough to know Bill and most other members.
Bill can be as guilty as any other in evasion and hyping his own views. That is not to say that I do not respect him.

What I see is a bunch of poorly educated and under represented social conservatives, versus a "elite" of educated, but socially and politically ignorant carriers of the "liberal" agenda.
Both groups are right on some issues and wrong on others, but they both deserve to be allowed to express their opinions without being subjected to denigration.

Do you not know that ALL politicians lie and obfuscate???

Richard, you wouldn't recognise a left wing if it slapped you on the mouche......fraud.

Ake when you promote the ideas of ignorant attention whores like Palin (who resigned her governorship 1/2 way thru her first term to sign lucrative contracts with Fox News and with TLC for a reality show), right wing whack jobs like Alan West and you characterize homosexual unions as perverse you shouldn't be surprised if you get even worse treatment than denigration on a forum largely populated by liberal progressives (at least on the west side of the Atlantic, can't speak for the other side).
We do have some principled and thoughtful conservatives in this country but Palin ain't one of em. Do a bit of research into her before you assess her contributions to the political debate. It shouldn't take long, it's a pretty shallow subject.

I Like thoughtful conservatives, as much as I like thoughtful liberals.

What Mrs Palin is feared for is her POWER. She knows how to work the most efficient political weapon in existence .....the media...she connects with ordinary JOE and JEAN....not the cynical worldly wise manipulators of the political class.

She is feared not only by the fraudulent "liberals", but by her own Party more than anyone else.
This is a woman who will never behave, or toe the party line, she is a populist....and she knows how to work it! :0)
The first time I heard her speak, I realised how easily she connected, it is a gift not given to many. A couple of weeks later she was being touted for V P, until the GOP realised the danger they faced and started to undermine her.

It amazes me, the woman can assist the change that never got from your poster boy The President....if you could only see it.

You have not seen the last of her, and if you have sense you will help not hinder in her remodelling.

If you study the history of this country Ake, you will see that change does come gradually if people fight for it. We're now in a politically regressive era but thanks to forward looking politicians like President Obama and progressive groups like OWS we'll get past this. The first steps should be to get the big corporate money out of the election process and establish standardized, fair elections.

But that is against the rules of the present system...systemic change is required

We will not get past this, Mr Obama is a token, perhaps unwittingly, perhaps not
The facts are, that we can no longer sustain ourselves, this system works well, so long as there are resources to steal and people to exploit, but the resources are running out and the people want the lifestyle they have been promised....and given a little taste of to boost consumerism.

Its over....get used to it, and the old rules will no longer apply.
The system is moving its wealth away to greener fields, we either write off the future of our kids or start constructing a sustainable society.

Sarah Palin lost with finality what little credibility she had left when she put her own agenda ahead of her state she professed to love.

I refer to the statewide celebration of Alaska's 50th anniversary of statehood.

When Alaska became a state in 1959 there were speeches, parades, bunting, late night parties. Dignitaries came from all over.

Fifty years later, Palin was governor of Alaska, and although she lived (part time) in the Governor's House two blocks from the celebration she was not there for the commemoration. Not that she refused to participate: although the committee in charge of the celebration asked her formally - and repeatedly - she ignored their requests and remained silent. Not only that, she didn't name anyone to take her place; she didn't respond to that request either.

Eventually - and very late- the committee asked Dennis Egan, the grandson of the first elected Alaska governor if he would lead the speeches and represent the state, and he agreed.

Palin is vindictive and everything is personal to her. She has no class, no long view.

"Bill can be as guilty as any other in evasion and hyping his own views. That is not to say that I do not respect him."

This is simply not true. I have never seen you evade. I have never seen you hyping your own views, while there are plenty who do both.

I fear that our friend Akenaton suffers from a tendency toward binary categorization. He shares this with a great conservative thinker of our time who said "You're either for us or agin us." and then proceeded to waste a trillion dollars and thousands of lives on a pointless war.

Ah...ok...thanks, Jack. I confess I did not read carefully enough.

So... my own comment on Ake's post:

""Bill can be as guilty as any other in evasion and hyping his own views."
I can comment on that one: I *never* intentionally evade. If a rational & substantive answer would take more time than I have to compose it, then I may say so and give a brief synopsis or just not bother. I hate being unclear!
As to "hyping my own views". Please explain how "hyping" differs from 'explaining' or just simply 'stating'. What YOU, ake, seem to not understand, is that 'my view' is often merely a statement that I find someone else's view flawed, poorly stated, or as I said about Palin, based on simple factual errors. Criticizing a view does not 'necessarily' mean that I espouse the opposite view... though that can happen.
When I have a clear, unambiguous opinion on some matter, I try to say so. (see my views on environmental issues, or gun control).
In THIS long post, the point is that there seem to be some really odd distortions of what my 'view' actually is! My view IS that Sarah Palin and her ilk do not think, reason and debate in the same way that most of their opponents do! That does **NOT** mean that I automatically agree with everything said by anyone you class as a 'liberal'.

So... you see why discussions like this are difficult for me? There are so many explications needed that it is often hard to stay directly on the topic.
