A cootie is a louse. Cooties are lice. There are three kinds: head lice, body lice and crab lice. I had crabs. I understand the other two make ya itch just as much. Trust me, they ain't no joke.

One of the ways to get rid of them is to shave half yer pubic hair, put lighter fluid on the unshaven half, set it on fire, and when they scramble to the clearing you stab them with an icepick. Another way is A-200. Wipes them out, usually. I must have left a few alive which is why I had to re-do the application a while later. Average female louse can lay 300-600 eggs in a month. In my circumstance, I had just one louse but it was on a motorcycle. FYI

ake, since somewhere in the ancient past, young American kids are expected to go through a period of development in which they express total disgust with their peers of the opposite gender; whether many of them ever really feel anything like that much sincere antipathy, who know? But somewhere along the way the standard battle cry of the very young became "Girls have cooties" (or, "Boys have cooties"
Cooties are apparently some form of bug; whether the term has ever actually been identified with any species isn't really relevant to the whole phenomena.

Mysterious unknown Guest, I didn't post to dispute your definition; you just posted again whilst I was decomposing. It may be entirely correct to identify cooties as lice. I just doubt that most of the little kids hollering "Girls have cooties" have a clear idea of what a cootie is supposed to be. : )

I just got curious and searched A200; got a whole string of electronic equipment, and finally a relevant result. Given the apparent sincerity of Guest's narrative, I was a bit surprised to find out it really is marketed to treat lice; I was expecting something like WD40, or something to start engines in cold weather. :)

We've had lice in Scotland, in fact I think I've been called "louse" by a very naughty member, but haven't seen one for years.
The wee girls used to get them in their long hair....usually at primary school.
