You folks solved a problem I was having with data entry in the Excell spreadsheet format. I appreciated that very much. I now have another problem:

I'm establishing an alphabetical list of my active song list. I'm approaching 400 songs. I've made several columns "A", "B", etc. The "A" column is the song title. Column "B" is my source for that song. Column "C" tells me if I've recorded it already, etc.

Here's the problem: when I hit "data" and alphabetize the song list in column "A", the other columns do not stay with the matching entry in column "A". This means that as I have to re-enetr the matching data all over again.

Is there a solution for this?

You need to select all of the columns and sort on Column A. The data in the other columns will then follow the re-sorted column A data.

If you do make a mistake like that again, try Edit/Undo.

And you probably already know this but if you do something, like your sort, that does not do what you want, rather than re-enter the data just choose Edit - Undo. Saved my skin, and patience, many a time :-)

I have had this happen numerous times and the edit undo just would not work once it had sorted. The other time it won't work for me is when it changes dates into some number..it won't change them back..so work out of a copy.

What you probably need is an access database but they require a lot of knowledge which I don't have and is pretty hard to do on your own . You can enter stuff in excel and import into database that someone has set up for you. It becomes very easy to run various reports then but you need help from someone who is better acquainted iwth the program.

You probably have auto save switched on. Undos are only available up to the last save.

No particular need to go to an Access DB - you can use the raw data on Sheet 1 as the source and some querying on it in Sheet 2, using the external data query tools.

A trick I use to always have the facility to backtrack to where I started from is to insert a column and number each row consecutively. Include this in the data/filter range. All you need to do is sort this row "smallest to largest"!
