Time to start a thread for the 2014-2015 Camp New Harmony, the annual gathering of the San Francisco Folk Music Club.


The dates for this year's Camp New Harmony are Tuesday December 30, 2014, through Sunday, January 4, 2015 - it's a few days later than usual this year. I think this is the latest it can possibly be. Registration opened about September 15, and the early bird discount applies to registrations submitted by the end of the day on October 16.
The camp is held every year during the week after Christmas at URJ Camp Newman, on the road between Calistoga and Santa Rosa, north of San Francisco. Some 300 people will be there for 6 days of song and dance and whatnot.

Next year's camp will be 12/29/15 through 1/3/16

I'm going to use this as an edited thread to record pre-camp signups for workshops. We expect, as usual, that most people will sign up for workshops after they get to camp.

So, the idea is this: if you're attending camp and you'd like to lead a workshop, scroll down and post a message at the end of this thread with the following information: Your name Name of the workshop Preferred time and day Preferred location I'll enter the information in the charts below. I can't guarantee time and location, but I'll do the best I can to balance things.

Meal Times:

• Cold breakfast 8:00am to 10:15am
• Hot breakfast: 9am to 10:15am (food put away at 10:30am)
  (everyone out of the dining hall by 10:45am)
  
• Lunch: 1-2:30 pm (food put way at 2:45pm)
  (everyone out of the dining hall by 3:00pm)
  
• Dinner: 6:30 – 7:30pm (seconds bell rung at 7:30) food put away at 8pm

The only thing fixed so far is the Triple Crown, which will be on Thursday January 1 Friday, January 2. Here's the message from Charlie Fenton:

Dick Holdstock has been offered a gig on Saturday January 3, so we would like to change this year's Triple Crown to Thursday:

I would like to have my 50s and 60s pop hit songs workshop on Saturday from 4-6 in Reuben's [Scheduled]. I hope that time and place are still available.

I would like to have my waltz jam workshop [Friday 4 PM] in the dance hall on any day except Saturday some time in the afternoon. If a waltz workshop has been scheduled, it would work well for my workshop to follow. Otherwise,schedule to it so as to not conflict with the pop hits workshop or the Irish set dance workshops.

No workshops on Sunday. The Camp Newman staff will want us to leave with a modicum of alacrity so they have time to close things down after we leave. I'm sure, though, that there will be many songs sung that morning. I wish I could lead a Sunday morning gospel sing that morning, but that is not to be.
Come sing with us in Auburn on the second Sunday afternoon of every month - you'll love it!

Thanks, Mary. I had been waiting for those. Is there anyone who can tell me what dances are on what nights? And when are the evening concerts? What night is the Silly Night concert?

Hello Folk Club New Harmony campers,
The swing dance will be Thursday night this year, aka New Year's Day evening, aka the third night of camp. As always, we will have a variety of singers accompanying the band. All are welcome to sing a song of your choice for the dancers' pleasure, within reason, playability, and swinginess.

If you are interested, please try to arrive at camp knowing what song you would like to sing, and in what key. Bring some chord charts if you can prepare them in advance. It will help the band immensely.

In order to put on a good dance program, we need a variety of fast and slow songs, latin rhythms are very welcome, and a waltz or two. You may be asked to come up with an alternate if we end up with too many songs of any one type. I have all the chord charts from the last three years of swing dances, in case you would like to sing your "signature" song, want try one the perennial favorites, or need a reminder of what you sang in the past and in what key.

There will still be a sign up sheet at camp, and the band and I will be available for consultation and assistance. If you know in advance what you want to sing, you can let me know now so I can get a head start on the list, or just come to camp prepared.
