Subject: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: Janie Date: 15 Jun 14 - 11:56 AM All my best and a big 'Tip o' the hat' to all the fathers on Mudcat. Missing my own dad today and everyday. Have more often than not been awed by what many of our Mudcat fathers have shared over the years, here below the line, of their efforts to be the very best parents they can be. Happy Fathers Day, all you Mudcat male parents! |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: Dave the Gnome Date: 15 Jun 14 - 05:18 PM Thanks Janie. I brought my 92 year old dad to us on Friday. Today I got gifts, cards and visits from my own children and grandchildren. It was a lovely weekend. Pity I had to throw petrol on next doors house and kill the people living there... :D tG |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: Rapparee Date: 15 Jun 14 - 08:52 PM I'm sure they deserved what they got, DtG. I wish I had known my own father better -- he died when I was 5. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: Janie Date: 15 Jun 14 - 10:04 PM Glad it was a lovely weekend, Dave and that your kids and grandkids expressed their appreciation. Good reminder, Rap, that not everyone grows up with a father, (or with a good father.) My mom lost her father very young in a coal mine accident Had a profound impact on the entire family system. My paternal grandmother lost her father to typhoid fever when she was very young, and as a result, spent a number of years of her youth in a Masonic orphanage, with visits to her Mom. Her brother died at the orphanage from TB. Late in her life she expressed she preferred the orphanage to living with her mom. Had company and friends in the orphanage, and when with her mom, was isolated on a hard scrabble dirt farm in eastern Kentucky. Lots of kids today grow up without their fathers around. Not necessarily because the fathers don't want to be involved. It has seemed to me, over the years here on Mudcat, that we have a higher number of engaged and committed dad's than is representative of the general population in the western world. Just an impression. Could be distorted. Regardless, I'll repeat, Happy Fathers Day all you Mudcat fathers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 16 Jun 14 - 01:10 AM Happy Father's Day to all the fathers on Mudcat. Father's Day is when we thank or fathers for fuckin' our mothers...and hence we were born..... ..Mother's Day is when we thank our mothers for not swallowing us! GfS |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: Musket Date: 16 Jun 14 - 05:03 AM I lost my father when I was young and to be fair, Father's Day, like many special days with origins in the business plans of Hallmark cards wasn't a big thing. However, my two sons have always noted it, and although I was away this weekend I got texts from them both and one via her Dad from my granddaughter. Next week is really my weekend as all my family is coming over to spend the weekend with us. I haven't seen my granddaughter for a couple of months now and am getting Granddad distance pains..... I have been asked to clear my diary for a Father's Day pressie. My lads are taking me to a day at the next test match. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Fathers Day From: GUEST,eldergirl Date: 17 Jun 14 - 04:15 AM Yesterday we spent the afternoon at our daughter's, just sharing music we love with each other. Well, mostly a father- daughter share, as they set it up between them earlier in the week. Just favourite tracks from our younger days, and her favourites from now.. Though I was delighted when two of her choices tallied exactly with mine! She has very wide-ranging eclectic taste. That's our kid, all right! Her Dad was well chuffed. This might have been his best father's day gift yet. X el |
