Subject: RE: Bellowhead album streaming on Guardian From: GUEST,Jerome Clark Date: 27 Jun 14 - 08:02 PM A most excellent album, restoring my faith in Bellowhead's nobility. One can greet this as a 21st-century creature, an evolutionary development from early Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span, Shirley & Dolly Collins's classic Anthems in Eden, Brass Monkey, and other reinventions of the old English tradition by decidedly modern English musicians. The adjective "poppy" comes to mind on one cut ("Moon Kittens"). Otherwise, the feeling, if not the sound, of the older music seems omnipresent. Quite a trick if you can pull it off, and in my opinion it's pulled off here brilliantly. |
