Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 02 Aug 14 - 09:38 AM We've already had our holiday - to Scotland. Edinburgh, the NW Highlands for scenery, then Portsoy Wooden Boat Festival for fun and music. It was great. The DH collected a magnetic rock on the shore at Portsoy. I'm sure you will enjoy your cruise, bubblyrat. Cruises are so relaxing because your cabin becomes your little home. |

Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Aug 14 - 03:30 PM No Europe this year. I had planned to go to Israel in November, but the trip got cancelled. But in my March vacation, I did the Central California Coast for a week - visited a lot of missions. In my May vacation, Christina and I spent two weeks in Utah and Arizona exploring Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks. And then in September, I'll go to North Carolina to take the DaniVan to the Getaway music camp in Maryland - and I'll combine that with a drive to Florida to visit my dad. Oh, and we flew to Florida to visit him in January. I guess I spend more time on vacation, than I thought I did. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Bill D Date: 02 Aug 14 - 06:54 PM I have a short holiday trip almost everyday...via Google Earth. Yesterday I drove around London. Today it was South Africa. Not long ago, I visited Iceland...in short sleeves. ... and every now & then, Joe Offer's travels brings him to ME. My big trips each year involve the Getaway and another musical weekend in West Virginia. |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Aug 14 - 07:06 PM I might be able to bring peace to Israel by simply not signing up for any more trips there. I've had three Israel trips cancelled in the last ten years - but I did get there in 1999. There are two more things I want to do in Israel:
And yes, it's always a treat to visit Bill and Rita, and I do it often. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Mrrzy Date: 02 Aug 14 - 08:13 PM Yes, but I wouldn't go to Mali today... Going to the beach in a fortnight or so... for a fortnight or so... Sun Sand Sea |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Aug 14 - 08:14 PM I've just got back from a week in the Almería province of Andalucia, staying in a cortijo in the middle of nowhere at the edge of the Alpujarras. It was extremely hot, dry, stark and utterly beautiful. We spent much of the time visiting the hill villages and enjoying tapas and wine in the bars in the village squares. The people are the poorest in Europe but are totally wonderful, and they have an agreeable tendency to be somewhat left-wing! |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 03 Aug 14 - 12:27 AM my holidays are festivals. My big one is the week-long National Folk Festival in Canberra at Easter. Autumn in Canberra is sunny days in summer gear & evenings in thermals, usually followed by minimums of 0-10C, but I'm usually snug in my tent under my 80% down quilt. My other major festival is different - a 4-day festival in mid January at the Illawarra Folk Festival, about 100km south of Sydney. I hate summer heat & humidity but I still go cos the singing & company is great & the acts are good. Last year & this year the temperatures were in the mid 40s - & last year we extreme gusts of wind that blew down tents & caused major problems in the Food Court where stall holders were trying to turn off their gas & hold down their tents & chase after their stock. It was amazing (saddening?) the number of festival goers who just watched a small number of us helping. I also go to a couple of 2 or 3 day festivals. sandra (folkie but not traveller cos I have too many sore bits to sit on long flights & queue at historic sites) |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Musket Date: 03 Aug 14 - 03:11 AM We had a two week holiday in Scotland early May and in September we are visiting family in Western Australia. There is an off chance of Mrs Musket getting some leave she is owed but not practical to take right now and we will book a cottage on the Suffolk coast if she can. If she can't I am making a pilgrimage to Whitby Folk Festival. It's a few years since I was last at the festival and although many things have altered, no Jack in the pub yard, no going from there to Stainsby etc, I will be meeting up with a few old mates. Next year is part booked already with the early January Tignes Val D'Isere bash and in March a trip to Canada, visiting friends in Canmore and more skiing around Banff. A bit different to my childhood of Blackpool and a day trip to Skeggy. |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 03 Aug 14 - 05:06 PM blackpool AND Skeggy....! and he we are drinking our chateau de chatillon...! |
Subject: RE: Where are you going on holiday ? From: Janie Date: 03 Aug 14 - 05:16 PM My holidays consist of blowing off stuff that I really need to do on Sundays - my only day off. I blow most of them off, btw, which means on average I have 45+ one day holidays per year. Not bad. |
