After your trip, come back to this thread and let us know what you found. I plan to spend a month in Berlin sometime in the next few years.

Berlin had a very nice Oktoberfest when I lived there in 1972-73, but it was in September. By October, it's too dark and too cold for outdoor festivals.

I lived in Bielefeld (Westphalia) where I saw,at various venues,artistes such as Flook and Alan Wells .We ( I won't say who !) used to "busk" a lot at Hannover station.English/Scottish/Irish folk is BIG in Germany ( they were nuts about "Silly Wizard") ; I can't see Frankfurt and Berlin being any different !!

Some places for live music are:

Celtic Cottage

Blarney - Sessions first Saturday of the month, sometimes third as well

Irish Harp: mixed quality music: Oct. 3rd and 18th are recommended

Petruskirche - small concerts, good artists, not only folk
