Subject: RE: BS: Germany voted best country From: Musket Date: 19 Nov 14 - 01:04 AM Aye.. T'is over thirteen years since we stuffed them 5.1 in Munich. "Voted best" reminds me of an advert for a greasy spoon cafe in Scunthorpe whose advert (which included a photo of a plate of food with crinkly cut chips) said "voted best restaurant in Europe!" There was a * and you looked to the small text at the bottom. *By readers of The Scunthorpe Free Press. You have to give these things perspective. |

Subject: RE: BS: Germany voted best country From: Ed T Date: 19 Nov 14 - 01:56 PM I saw a sign on a small rural restraunt yesterday that read, "World's Best Fish and Chips". It got me to thinking that the claim was most likely based on a carefully designed global tasting survey. :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Germany voted best country From: GUEST,achmelvich Date: 19 Nov 14 - 07:31 PM this seems fair enough, they do seem to be doing well. a few years back i was watching bath city vs thurrock fc. the several thurrock fans were singing 'and it's thu...uhh ...urrock thu.. u...urrock fc , by far the greatest team the world has ever seen' but i wouldn't bet on them against the germans |

Subject: RE: BS: Germany voted best country From: GUEST,LynnH Date: 20 Nov 14 - 03:48 AM A couple of weeks ago I had to visit the local post office in order to send off requested documents to the UK Passport office in connection with passport renewal. The lass behind the counter looked at the address and then asked me where, in my opinion, things were better- over there in the UK or over here in Germany. My answer? Here in Germany, without a doubt. After all, you just have to look at what passes for UK politicians, both Government and opposition ( to say nothing of UKIP), parts of the press (e.g.The Daily Wail), andandand............. I've never ruled out a return to the UK, but that idea has been on the back burner for years. Meanwhile the flame has been turned down so low as to be almost undetectable.............. |
Subject: RE: BS: Germany voted best country From: Musket Date: 20 Nov 14 - 03:54 AM Lynn.. You realise of course that the UK we read of isn't The UK we experience? Politicians and the newspapers that tell us they are important are as influential now as they ever have been. None whatsoever... |
