Is "Go Set a Watchman" just a phrase from a verse in Isaiah, or has it appeared in any song lyric? I can think of a few similar phrases but not that exact one. Thanks.

By song lyrics, I mean traditionals or hymns older than early 20th Century--not Bob Dylan's!

Interesting question. It's from Isaiah 21:6, and it's the title of the long-lost Harper Lee sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird. The phrase is also found in Dylan's All Along the Watchtower. Don't know of other songs that make reference to this.

In Genet's autobiographical novels about his criminal career, "posting a watchman" is a burglar crapping on the floor during a job.

Could be mistaken, but is,nt there a line from somewhere.......he made me a watchman, upon the city wall, and if I am a Christian, I am the least of all....?
