I can see where some people might be interested in removing dark spots (Personally I assume any internet ad that includes the word "shocking" will be drivel that I'm not about to bother with), but why would they use that picture of some poor guy with all his toes amputated,,,

We don't all see that ad, frogprince, it is usually targeted to each user's browser. We don't all see ads. While it's good for Mudcat finances that ads appear, there are adblocker browser ad-ons that will block all of that. Unless you are infected with "adware" that is a malicious income generator that puts ads on all pages (but conveniently avoids the large sites like Amazon and facebook to stay off of the radar).

Thanks, SRS, but it wasn't any real concern; just a somewhat stupid ad showing someone's wrists, and the back of their hands, positioned so it really did look a lot like standing ankles and feet with no toes.

One johnny-come-lately habit that irritates me a bit is Facebook with its penchant for labeling everything as "Amazing", "Shocking", "Incredible", "Unbelievable"... you get the idea. Why is it necessary?

Frogprince, you do have an arrow-shaped button at the upper-right corner of ads that allows you to tailor your ads to your interests - somewhat, at least.
Google doesn't care what you buy, as long as you buy something that gives Google a percentage.

Last year, a colleague called me over to his computer to show me a graph he received on Yammer, a social network that had a private network set up for the organisation.

I wasn't looking at the graph on the post, I was more intrigued by the 'ads inspired by his browsing.' Thai brides and latex clothing!

I don't see ads on Mudcat..or most other pages... unless I choose to. I use a web filter called Proxomitron.

And Ebbie, **Facebook** doesn't use those words, users who are trolling for your attentions use them to get YOU to respond to their games. If someone 'shares' a link asking you to name a dog that doesn't have an 'A' in it's name, or asking you to take a quiz to find out which vegetable you resemble, be assured that all they want is your FB link to sell to ad creators.

"Click on this to see what happens". Going back quite a while, I bit on a few occasions. I never saw a damn thing happen. Did any of you ever see one that caused anything interesting, or anything at all?

"but why would they use that picture of some poor guy with all his toes amputated,,,"   (from the first post)

Frogprince, I can tell you're not female. As a female, I had no problem at all seeing that the picture shows the back of a hand with the fingers curved under. That's exactly how women hold their hands as they gaze ruefully at the dark spots (caused by sun) upon them. For some odd reason, there are never spots on the fingers, just on the back of the hand between the wrist and the knuckles.

But then we remember the beautiful flowers, and good vegetables and the lovely hikes that produced those spots from the sun, and we decide not to worry about them anymore.

Yes, I know that what I get up there is no one here's fault. But, eesh; I can't see that any of my browsing history relates to a video on sagging skin (with drawing of a nude torso showing just about "everything") that I am not about to watch. It may indeed be past time to try an ad blocker, although I have found some of the ads here, some related to music or the Cat itself, of interest.

And I've already got a second version of a saggy-skin-video ad; at least this one just shows an arm "before and after".

Frogprince, my ads at the top are about travel to exotic places - right now, a train trip from Budapest to Salzburg. If you change to a more adventuresome mode of thinking, your ads will match your state of mind...

These ads, Frogprince, they tell what you're thinking. If your ads are about sagging skin or erectile dysfunction or stuff like that, maybe you don't want to be telling the whole world what your ads are saying...

IT is rather fun leaving snail trails in the morning dew.

At the moment flights from CDG to REK Iceland are 209 USD.

It is nice to see the wake of graffiti left behind and on the notepad
