Not my beliefs.

I'm just repeating what you'd be told: Ronald Reagan personally kicked over the Communist Bloc and saved the world -- just ask anyone -- and HE certainly wouldn't have sent ANYONE is harm's way. Just ask the Marines! He took a hard line with Iran, and that's why he sold them parts for weapons systems so the profit could be used to support the Contras in Nicaragua!

By the way, I was 5 when my father was killed in a jobsite accident.

It's always worth contemplating why there is a Hezbollah in the first place. You have my sympathy. I have no idea how you must be feeling.

You'd rather start another war?

And if by "the stuff" you mean the idea, the training, the financing, the organization, and everything else, then yes, Iran "supplied the stuff" and somebody else did it. But in reality, Iran's government/Ayatollah recruited, inspired, sent to Syria for training, brought back to Beirut, and gave detailed instructions to, the individuals who drove the actual truck. So, no, Hezbollah is not "somebody else" any more than your fingers are somebody else when your brain tells them to type things. It's still in your brain, not in your fingers, that the responsibility lies.

No, not trying to embarrass anyone, and I know that they can't actually admit wrongdoing. But I want them to, anyway. Not rational, but then again, neither is weeping for an hour every morning before I can get out of bed.

1983 was, politically, back in the stone age.

Somebody Else was in charge then and their reputation cannot be sullied.

Besides, Iran only supplied the stuff to do it with and someone else did it.

Are you trying to embarrass a Certain Political Party?

(Yes, they were lied to. Unfortunately, no government ever cares -- their actions speak louder than words.)

I find that I am falling rather completely apart over this whole rapprochement thing.

As many of you know, Iran sponsored the terrorist attack that killed my father. This is well-documented. The first suicide car-bombing of any of our embassies, this particular attack (April 18, 1983, Beirut) intervened between my finishing college and my graduation ceremony.

As some of you may also know, we and the families of the other Americans killed and maimed in that bombing sued Iran, and there is an existing judgment against them on the order of 5 billion dollars, and that is not a typo. Very little of that would actually be mine, but that is not the point.

I find that the looming détente with Iran and the Lehrer-esque after-war-parties-deal (about the Germans, the lyric I have in mind is "we taught them a lesson in 1918 and they've hardly bothered us since then") ignoring-of-old-terrorism-that-isn't-Al-Qaeda political aspects of this whole thing profoundly upsetting.

Yes, I am seeking professional help. I have been in and out of treatment for issues stemming from this since 1987, oddly enough.

But I am deeply, terribly, horrifically, sad.

And it doesn't help at all that the US government, whenever the DO acknowledge those particular deaths, refer to the people like Daddy, whom they sent into a danger zone ***after taking everybody off danger pay*** so they could restock the embassy with civilians, as heroes who were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice.

BULLSHIT. They were dupes who were lied to by their own government, and THAT should also be acknowledged.

Thank you for listening. I look forward to your replies.
