Subject: BS: ******* Microsoft From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 11 Jun 15 - 07:08 AM Right in the middles of a complex and intricate piece of work, Microsoft in its infinite wisdom decided to restart the computer (client's) I was working on - breaking my concentration, and now I need to waste time refocusing. Luckily I save my work frequently. Is anyone at Microsoft the tiniest bit aware that people have jobs and work to do, or don't they give a ****? |

Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 11 Jun 15 - 07:15 AM Still waiting for excel (15 minutes so far) to reopen - while Microsoft sees fit to slow the pc back down to a crawl for the next half hour. |

Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: Mrrzy Date: 11 Jun 15 - 11:17 AM If I hadn't slammed my laptop shut in frustration after saving over something I had worked on for hours, I could have used undo-undo-undo and gotten it back... Which is at least way better than it used to be, back in the dawn of time. Still. They should have let the Mac stuff take over instead of inventing windows to mimic it through secret DOS in the background. And then outmarketing them. Buggers. |
Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: Backwoodsman Date: 11 Jun 15 - 01:27 PM If Apple weren't such avaricious buggers, charging double the value for everything they sell, then charging for other necessary 'accessories', there would be no Microsoft - everyone would be using Macs. The only reason my new laptop is a Windows machine is because it cost slightly over half what a similar MacBook would have cost. I'd rather have the MacBook, but as a pensioner I just couldn't afford it. |

Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: Bill D Date: 11 Jun 15 - 06:00 PM Desperation to get you to upgrade to Win10 There are many tech links about KB3035583. |
Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: Backwoodsman Date: 12 Jun 15 - 02:37 AM I noticed that, Bill. I got the little 'Windows' icon with 'Upgrade to Windows 10' flag. I ran the 'Check your PC's Compatibility' routine, which told me that my PC is compatible with Win 10, but that my AMD Radeon graphics adapter won't work! WTF? The machine is less than a year old! I've checked AMD's site and Microsoft's Windows 10 pages - nothing in either to tell me whether a suitable driver for the graphics card will be provided. I'm happy with Win 8.1 and I'm sticking with it. |
Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 12 Jun 15 - 05:05 AM Took about an hour and a half out of my working day lost work and lost concentration, ended up finishing work after 7pm, the client wasn't to happy about having to stay late to lock up. |
Subject: RE: BS: ******* Microsoft From: Mr Red Date: 12 Jun 15 - 05:45 AM did you know that the address Micro$oft headquarters in Redmond WA is: One Micro$oft Way As I pointed-out in this parish years ago. One comment (then) was - "yea, you can tell it by all those crashes". It gets worse. I make sure Micro$soft don't update automatically, there is a switch somewhere in Control Panel or the systray icon. Before I did that it put up a warning of impending restart, which got behind my working window as I typed. Hence unseen! Whith the inevitable result. Thanks Micro$oft! I have uninstalled Lenovo monitoring software on the advice of a practicing expert who also has Lenovos. And bingo, and more laterly warnings of "Lenovo s/w stopped working" have gone, originally they were BSoDs, thankfully long gone. AV & update conflicts. My tame expert reckoned the Lenovo s/w is a security risk. And the evidence I have would confirm that. The shop I bought the laptop from said they would look at it, but kept schtum on what I could do. Even though I told them it was a software problem. They knew. That will be 40 GBP thanks. Not from my pocket - PAL! |
