Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: Mrrzy Date: 20 Jun 20 - 12:29 PM Who changed the title of my thread and would you change it back, please? |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Jun 20 - 12:34 PM The mood of the country has changed - Juneteenth isn't like most other holidays. The original title felt trite. Or, I should say, it's a more somber holiday than the original title suggested. It's a day when we should be considering reparations. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: mg Date: 20 Jun 20 - 05:49 PM I would prefer one day to actually celebrate as we all certainly need to these days, and use the other 364 or 365 days of the year to work on what needs fixing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: Mrrzy Date: 21 Jun 20 - 09:47 AM It wasn't OK then, and it isn't now. Sorry, I know you meant Oklahoma, but it read oddly. I guess also I need to remember that threads don't belong to the OP, but it still bugs me this thread got renamed from well-wishing to bland nothing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: mg Date: 21 Jun 20 - 06:30 PM I am not sure what the original title was but I presume it was happy juneteenth. I would have preferred leaving the happy in. What could be happier than being freed, even years late, even though you should never have been enslaved. Why are all these songs begging for freedom...oh freedom is for me...every link was freedom's name..let my people go...and it is not for me to say, but I hope (and hope for my cousins from Cameroon) that everyone celebrates and rejoices on Juneteenth and doesn't get too sad..Martin Luther King Day could be the more somber day. In fact, there was a MLK celebration years ago in Olympia, WA and it was great..everyone wore brown, and there were dixieland bands playing and it was joyful in the way St. Patrick's Day is...especially think about the children. They deserve a very happy day in a world full of strife. One day to be especially happy. I think we have lost the belief that it is OK to be happy. It's OK, every now and then. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: Mrrzy Date: 22 Jun 20 - 06:46 PM It was indeed started as Happy Juneteenth, y'all, way back in 2015. That is still what I wish people on this joyous holiday. Why won't mudcat change it back? I have asked several times. Here's your holiday message, restored, more or less, minus the serious discussion of Juneteenth. A thread acknowledging that you know the date is on the calendar. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: mg Date: 22 Jun 20 - 09:17 PM you can wish me a happy celebration privately. i think we are short of celebrations. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: mg Date: 22 Jun 20 - 09:46 PM i get really nervous when people mess with other peoples' holidays. I go berserk on St. Patrick's Day when people with no connection to Ireland have the nerve to tell us how to celebrate, what to sing, oh they don't sing that in Ireland. no one said they did. we sing what our fairly immediate ancestors sang, which is pretty much john mccormick and bing crosby. i have no personal connection with christopher columbus holiday and don't celebrate it but i respect that it is important to Italian Americans and I presume it will be abandoned but hopefully with some respect for IA's. |
Subject: RE: BS: Juneteenth From: mg Date: 23 Jun 20 - 02:55 PM i respect the right of owners and moderators to do as they see fit. At the same time, I don't think people are too happy right now and any little thing to lift spirits is good. Any celebration is good. Any chance to celebrate with people of other cultures is good. Any temporary reprieve from all that is going on right now is good. Any move towards barbecues and music and parades is good. Painting green stripes down roads is good. We need to permit happiness, at least for the children. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Juneteenth, Y'All! From: Mrrzy Date: 24 Jun 20 - 11:35 AM Thanks K! I didn't mind the serious discussion. I only minded the thread name change. I am truly deeply madly sorry that such serious discussion has been removed, as that was not at all at all my intention. I sincerely hope that I have correctly understood that another thread has been started, with all the serious discussion in it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Juneteenth, Y'All! From: Mrrzy Date: 24 Jun 20 - 05:09 PM Yes, it has. Makes for some funny reading as there are responses there to questions posed here, and vice versa. |
