Subject: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: Bonzo3legs Date: 01 Nov 15 - 06:03 AM As a former rugby player, I cannot remember seeing such an exciting few games as the last 4 in the World Cup. The game has changed considerably since I last played, and so has the standard of kicking, especially from Dan Carter who is unbelievable! |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: MikeL2 Date: 01 Nov 15 - 07:55 AM Hi Bonzo I agree with all you said. I too am an ex-player, but the game I played was vastly different to what I played. I believe the professionalisation sic of the game has lead to a faster, more physical and tactical game in which the Southern Hemisphere teams have excelled. I watched most of the games and was deeply disappointed with the performance of the Home Countries, especially England. Scotland have some excuse at the manner of their dismissal but I don't believe they would have gone any further anyway. Yes the All Blacks were the best team and deserved to win the Trophy. For me though I thought that Argentina were the most interesting and exciting team to watch. perhaps we should enter the World Cup as The British Lions. Cheers Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: MikeL2 Date: 01 Nov 15 - 11:04 AM hi Steve <" Do you people not realise that Liverpool have just slaughtered Chelsea at Stamford Bridge? "> Who hasn't ?? At the moment Chelsea are in the relegation fight !! I watched it all on TV. Liverpool did play very well and thoroughly deserved their win. Interestingly all the comments( Chelsea's)after the game was about Lucas not being sent off. We thought that the Chelsea guy dived and hit Lucas as he fell. Oh....and nobody mentioned Terry's hand ball in the penalty area. Regards Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: GUEST,achmelvich Date: 01 Nov 15 - 03:45 PM surely you aren't implying that folk who enjoy playing or watching the beautiful game are less 'gentlemanly' than the folks who like rugby? or are you talking about rugby league? that boris johnson wasn't very 'gentlemanly' with the japanese lad, eh? |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: GUEST Date: 01 Nov 15 - 03:54 PM As the old saying goes: Rugby - a game for louts played by gentlemen Football - a game for gentlemen played by louts |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: Tattie Bogle Date: 01 Nov 15 - 07:41 PM As a Scot, I have to agree with MikeL2 - yes, we were deprived of a semi-final place, but also yes, sadly have to agree, we'd probably not have got beyond that. As for entering a British Lions team: we went all the way to New Zealand in 2005 to watch our BL team being slaughtered, so forget that, PLEASE! But do watch out for Scotland in the next Six Nations! Wooden spoons nae mair! |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Nov 15 - 08:56 PM I don't know the first thing about rugby, though I understand that it's bad form to throw the ball forwards. I did once watch a game of American football on the telly for half an hour, and this is what I gleaned about proceedings: 1. Two lots of heavily-padded men stand around for five minutes doing nothing. 2. They form two lines, then another man throws a ball along the lines. 3. Both lots of padded men more or less ignore the thrown ball, but, instead, proceed to beat each other up for about one minute. 4. The two lots of padded men regroup, dust themselves down, stand around for another five minutes, after which the procedure is repeated. 5. As this is not very interesting after a while, on the touchline groups of beautiful young women, wearing frilly skirts that virtually reveal their actual delectable beknickered bottoms, jump up and down chanting frenetic support for their favourite bunch of padded men. By a large margin, this is the most watchable part of the whole proceedings, so much so that the actual game, already incomprehensible in any case, becomes no more than a sideshow. |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: MikeL2 Date: 02 Nov 15 - 04:39 AM Hi Trying get back to the thread...kinda !!!! I went over to an old haunt, Hull yesterday. ( I spent some time there years ago while I was in The RAF). I went to watch the Rugby League Test match between England and New Zealand. In this one England won in what was a great game to watch. England showed some that their Rugby Union counterparts lacked. They showed commitment and guts and not a little skill in coming from behind to win a deserved match. This was despite being without their best player Sam Thomkin who unfortunately is injured. His replacement however like the other twelve played their hearts out. This was the first of 3 Test Matches and if the other two are as good as this was I will be disappointed that I will not be able to see them, well not live anyway. Cheers Mike |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: MikeL2 Date: 02 Nov 15 - 04:43 AM Hi Tattie <" But do watch out for Scotland in the next Six Nations! Wooden spoons nae mair! ">. I agree with you entirely. Scotland are the most improved team in the Home Countries. Good to see. In my old club, Sale< we have a close connection with many Scottish players playing for us over the years. Regards Mike |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: GUEST,Allan Conn Date: 02 Nov 15 - 05:58 AM I disagree with the Scotland would probably have gone no further. They would have fancied themselves against Argentina in the semi-final and would basically not likely ever have a better chance to reach a final had they made the semi. Historically Scotland haven't had a good record against the Pumas but that has reversed in recent years and Scotland have beaten them 4 out of 5 of the recent games. Sure Argentina have improved over the past couple of years but so have Scotland! We've played them twice within the last 18 months (one home and one away) and we beat them both times. So of course it is something that can't be proved either way but I am sure Scotland would have fancied themselves in that one! New Zealand in the final a different matter of course! |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: MartinRyan Date: 02 Nov 15 - 09:19 AM perhaps we should enter the World Cup as The British Lions Mmmmm... Do you think you could manage without the (non-British) Irish? ;>)> Regards |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: Tattie Bogle Date: 02 Nov 15 - 10:40 AM Thanks Mike. Allan - you have a point, with statistical backing! Martin - of course they are The British AND IRISH Lions: some of the nicest people on our trip to NZ in 2005 were from N Ireland! And who can forget that "spear tackle" on Brian O'Driscoll (which dislocated his shoulder) in the first few minutes of the Christchurch test?! |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: gnu Date: 02 Nov 15 - 11:32 AM Great game. The Aussie captain showed real class in the on-field post-game interview, too. |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: breezy Date: 02 Nov 15 - 02:53 PM I thought that The last Lions tour was the Welsh squad plus a few guests. maybe I;m wrong. No, to a combined team Martin , England must man up and not rely on the rest of these island nations to carry them. careful now Scotland dont get carried away, false dawns etc I'm sure England will want to prove something come the six nations. I see Sarries are off to a good start |
Subject: RE: BS: All Blacks are just unbelievable! From: breezy Date: 02 Nov 15 - 02:55 PM As for class, what Sonny Boy did after the game was the epitome over 10 million hits !!! by last night |
