Subject: The Good Old Mountain Dew From: GUEST,Nick E Date: 01 Nov 15 - 09:29 PM Away down the road there is a hollowed out tree where you lay down a dollar or two, you go round the when you come back again there is a jug of that good old mountain dew... I am trying to figure out what late 70s/ early 80s southern rock band did a cover of this, I want to say Marshall Tucker but my search results don't have that, any Ideas? |

Subject: RE: The Good Old Mountain Dew From: cnd Date: 01 Nov 15 - 10:01 PM I seem to remember what you're talking about but after a brief search the "rocky-est" version of the song I could find was Willie Nelson's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlcCigNf4xI |
Subject: RE: The Good Old Mountain Dew-southern rock band? From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 01 Nov 15 - 10:14 PM Your request is VERY vague. Well... earlier you have Grandpa Jones. 1930's Later,,, you have the "Randy Shaw Band" (moonshine medly with Rockytop) However, I believe you are seeking "Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen" 1968-73 Stanley Brothers. 1946-1966 Or...."The Smokey River Boys" uwwwww, uwwwww, I know...."Doc Watson" Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash Sincerely, Gargoyle Surely, you do not want silly Willie Nelson? |
Subject: RE: The Good Old Mountain Dew-southern rock band? From: cnd Date: 01 Nov 15 - 11:04 PM He said "Southern Rock" band. Willie's closer to Southern Rock than any of those except Commander Cody, and even their version isn't particularly rocky. Having never heard of Randy Shaw, I looked them up, and they aren't much of a rock band either, and even further from the 70s. As for the rest of them, all the other bands are straight up country or bluegrass. |
Subject: RE: The Good Old Mountain Dew-southern rock band? From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Nov 15 - 01:34 AM I listened to lots of recordings on Spotify. No country/Southern rock band recordings, but lots of fun recordings nonetheless. Here's the recording by Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen. Can't say I like it. They sound drunk, or stoned. -Joe- |
