Subject: BS: The Hindsyte Saga From: michaelr Date: 10 Nov 15 - 12:24 AM PBS is presently re-running the 2002 production starring Damian Lewis (the terrorist from "Homeland"). I'm asking for opinions on whether this is worth watching, or whether earlier productions, or indeed the books, are preferred. Or perhaps it's all a giant waste of time, like "Dallas"? |

Subject: RE: BS: The Hindsyte Saga From: GUEST Date: 10 Nov 15 - 12:34 PM I found it a pleasant diversion lacking the sure grasp of the source material displayed in the BBC television serial made back in the 1960s. Damian Lewis is far too fit and active-looking to convey the fustian repression of Soames Forsyte, and all the women are too thin and glamorous for the time and social stratum in which the characters are set. But it's still fun to watch. Nobody made plots like Galsworthy, and most of the essential elements of the first three volumes of The Forsyte Saga survived the transition to the screenplay. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Hindsyte Saga From: ChanteyLass Date: 10 Nov 15 - 10:19 PM I thought it was good. I've read all the books and had liked the earlier, longer TV series, and never thought I'd accept a different cast, but I did. However, this one ends the saga before completing the story as the previous series (1967) did. |
