Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: Donuel Date: 22 Jun 16 - 02:32 PM Congressman Lewis has more courage than any 500 republicans. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: Vashta Nerada Date: 22 Jun 16 - 06:18 PM It has taken someone from the era of meaningful protests (the 1960s and 70s) to lead one now. As a somewhat younger American than Mr. Lewis I am embarrassed that successive generations don't really "get it" how these things should work. The Occupy movement fizzled - perhaps they'd like to try again now that they can see how it's really done. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Jun 16 - 06:39 PM Are they allowed to leave and return to deal with bodily functions and get food and drink? I'd think what's needed now is for sympathisers to set up camp around the building. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: Jeri Date: 22 Jun 16 - 07:19 PM McGrath, there's more than one of them. They don't all have to stay there. This (YouTube vid) is how it got started. I've been stuck on C Span most of the day. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: Donuel Date: 22 Jun 16 - 08:40 PM They are going to pull an all nighter in shifts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: Donuel Date: 22 Jun 16 - 09:21 PM The rep chairman called the DC police to have the Dems carried away. The DC police dept. called the Sargent of arms and the Sargent of arms told the chairman to stop being a baby and work out his own political problems. The Chairman made a speech of contrition near tears & received applause but the dems stayed in protest of demanding a vote on gun control at long last. This kind of sit in has never before happened in Congress. |

Everyone I know thinks keeping ar and ak rifles Away from people who are on the watch list is good. I guess everyone except the Republican leaders.. Go figure |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPPIED From: Mr Red Date: 23 Jun 16 - 04:47 AM there is still filibuster to come - I predict. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Donuel Date: 23 Jun 16 - 01:59 PM Congress does not have the filibuster, only the Senate First Ryan closed Congress until July 8th but now he will allow a vote on two of the three compromise gun bills. Old dude after 50 years, I still aim too high. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Jack Campin Date: 23 Jun 16 - 02:05 PM Meanwhile in Australia: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/06/160622114743.htm |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jun 16 - 03:09 PM It's interesting how gun ownership is treated as a sacred right in the U.S. Somehow, the politicians don't seem to see the right to vote as equally sacred. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Backwoodsman Date: 23 Jun 16 - 03:10 PM Absolutely no point in demonstrating truth and reality, Jack. The American small-dick gun-nuts will have a bullshit, smart-arse answer, because they 'know' you're safer with a gun, and much safer with a lot of guns. In the meantime, in the 20 years since the government banned the general ownership of handguns immediately following the 1996 Dunblane massacre, there have been precisely zero massacres in the United Kingdom. We have an average of 70 shooting-deaths per year, compared with 12,000 in the US. But hey, what the fuck do we know? |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Jeri Date: 23 Jun 16 - 03:48 PM Joe, during all the speeches by Democrats, I heard "nobody wants to take your 2nd amendment rights away" several times. I'd be happy with them modifying it. Majorly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Jack Campin Date: 23 Jun 16 - 09:42 PM And this is the kind of society the gun nuts want to create: http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/parenting/little-kids/81410011/Mum-broke-down-when-she-found-out-why-her-little-girl-was-standing-on-the-toilet Anywhere else, the preschool teacher responsible would be in court for child abuse. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jun 16 - 09:57 PM I know, Jeri. I hear that "nobody wants to take your 2nd amendment rights away" mantra all the time, and it pains me. I want to take their second amendment rights away. What about my right not to be threatened by their guns? Righteous gun owners scare the shit outa me - and I live in gun territory. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Donuel Date: 24 Jun 16 - 09:12 AM When the going gets tough the tough go ballistic. The second amendment is said to allow the people to wage a revolutionary war. If this is true the NRA is now defending the ownership of military crowd killer rapid fire guns to Americans and its enemies foreign and domestic. Why should they stop there? They should then support heavier weapons like grenade launcher attachments, RPGs, artillery, bio weapons and Tactical mini nukes. But the need to support a revolutionary war is not the real issue. It is merely profits for gun manufacturers. The NRA now only complicates issues for the respondsible gun owners. |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Jack Campin Date: 24 Jun 16 - 06:11 PM New Yorker article on the recent history of gun nuttiness in the US. I think they could have been a lot tougher than this, but it'll tell you a few things you didn't know. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/06/27/after-orlando-examining-the-gun-business |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Andrez Date: 24 Jun 16 - 10:27 PM Interesting info on the Australia experience with guns Jack. Joe, I beg to differ, the right to life is greater than the right to vote. Good luck and best wishes to all our US friends if they can find some way to neutralise the influence of the NRA, Republican and other cronies. Hopefully they'll also find some way of neutralising Trump too otherwise we might be dealing with 'boat people' heading our way from across the pacific :-( Cheers, Andrez |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: Andrez Date: 24 Jun 16 - 10:33 PM "…….. the right to life is greater than the right to vote". That said it is equally evident that using the right to vote will clearly promote the right to life, unimpeded by lunatics with AK47's etc running our communities. Cheers, Andrez |
Subject: RE: BS: Congress is now being OCCUPIED From: frogprince Date: 25 Jun 16 - 11:31 AM Andrez, I think you missed what Joe was getting at. There is a very high correlation between screaming out supposed defense of the 2nd amendment and efforts to disenfranchise any demographics prone to voting anything but far right. |
