So I'm glad to have got to 72 in reasonable health with a moderately comfortable lifestyle and a great son, partner and grandkids. So far so good! We've just come back from a wonderful holiday in Brittany - decided, as it's our 50th wedding anniversary, to treat the whole family to a week in a converted 15th century manor house. We had a great time.

And if all of that sounds rather commonplace and smug, well... there's often not a lot to talk about between the usual milestones of 60, 65, 60, etc., so as I get older, I enjoy every year as much as I can.

The kids are still in France, and we're taking my wife's mother (she's 90) with us to Brasserie Blanc in Chichester for lunch. The sun is shining, and it's warm already (9am UK summer time).

It can all go to hell in a handcart at any moment these days, so enjoy what you can while you can!

I'm 'elderly' too, and like you I truly relish each day. So many dear friends have 'gone before' so to speak, and I'm determined to have as much fun and joy as possible. Watching the News on TV I can see that many poor souls have terrible lives these days and disasters can happen at any time, so I have the same mindset as yourself - enjoy while we can eh?

72 used to sound really old. Now, it's only 4 years older than I am. Guess I won't mind 72 when I hit it. Here's hoping for many more good years, Will.

I can remember some time in high school counting on my fingers & realising I'd be 48!!!! in 2000 ... so old.

Geez, you must remember when library catalog cards were chiseled by hand onto pieces of rock! Thank goodness I'm not THAT old -- I remember typing the damned things. We didn't file them, of course, because if you can't find the book librarians become indispensable.

Thanks for the kind thoughts folks. Rap, I remember hours filing catalogue cards - but the only ones I actually typed were in Cyrillic - because I was responsible for cataloguing books in Russian!

Well done, Will and Happy Birthday! Personally, I have been 72 for 6 months already and still feel pretty much the same as I always did (about 16!). But glad you have family and friends around you - mine are scattered around the world and I have to travel to see them, but it is always sweet when I do.

Hope you enjoyed all the tasty regional foods my friends raved about after a week in Brittany with a local family of pen pals. Ciders, and wondrous "can't export them" cheeses... Sigh.

Hope you also got to see the light shows projected on the cathedrals oh la la, gorgeous.

I like 72. It's divisible by 1,2,3,4,6,8,9,12,18,24 and 36. Just think of the patterns, fractals and rhythms you can make with a number like that.

In our small village there are SIX folk over ninety years old, and they appear to zoom about like spring chickens. One is 97, lives on his own and still drives perfectly safely. I don't think being in one's seventies is 'old' nowadays (trying to ignore my wrinkles and white hair, not to mention saggy bits and loose teeth!)

leenia sounds like you might have some unexplored talents.
Perhaps you like to build fractals on your computer with some 3D programs. Think up some numbers, swish them around and poof you got fractals.

I experimented to the point where I found the fractals for organic life forms like the elephant. It is a very unusual unlikely animal evolving a helping hand out of its nose.

Of course 72 is not old these days; You are just a whippersnapper.

I am approaching 81 soon and d despite a couple of battle with the dreade Big C am still able to do most things - albeit either more slowly or not as well as before.

I struggle playing guitar these days so I pulled out my old keyboard.
Must sound really good cos the neighbours keep throwing stones through the windows so that they can hear me better.

I admire your playing and hope that you can go on for many years to come.
