Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or indians From: Rusty Dobro Date: 23 Oct 16 - 03:41 AM Well, I've never ridden an Indian, though there is a dealer quite close to home, but I remember the Cub as being the most charming of the small Triumphs. The very similar Terrier was very popular in Bermuda, where there was a 150cc engine limit. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: ChanteyLass Date: 23 Oct 16 - 02:46 PM Cubs. My dad lived his whole life, 1921-2002, between Red Sox wins. I'd like Cubs fans to experience the joy he never felt. There are still people alive who were old enough to celebrate the Indians most recent win. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: Rapparee Date: 23 Oct 16 - 10:16 PM The World Series has been called because of the elections here. Were it to be held I'd have to go with the Brooklyn Dodgers. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: Severn Date: 24 Oct 16 - 07:20 AM Breaking "The Curse Of Rocky Colovito" or ending the Cubs' draught dating back to the days of Hack Wilson......Hmmmmmm....... I'll have to go with the Cubs, but I wouldn't be brokenhearted of the Indians win, either. My Nationals and Orioles didn't make it, so I'll just watch for sheer enjoyment. I think the Cubs are due, and I like this year's bunch, but I read and greatly enjoyed Terry Pluto's excellent book about the Colovito curse, and I feel for them, too. I'm old enough to remember the Rocky for Harvey Keunn trade, but Hack's time was way before mine..... The Cubs in six. I DO want the Indians to triumph over the pipeline, but that's a whole different story and a whole different thread.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: gnu Date: 24 Oct 16 - 10:55 PM Just for Rap's sake, I will cheer for the Cubs... if it goes past 3 to whatever. Otherwise, WTF would I watch it? Seriously? I can barely watch a seven game series of Stanley Cup hockey anymore until one team has won three games and hockey is actually exciting because something is actually happening most of the time but SEVEN games? Not much spitting and nut scratching goes on on the ice. I do try to catch Coach's Corner just to see what The Cherry is wearing, of course. (Google Don Cherry if you are not a Canuck.) Yes... I realize my post is unwarranted and abusive to baseball fans and I should not have bothered. Don't read it. GO PATS! |
Subject: ADD: Go, Cubs, Go! (Steve Goodman) From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Oct 16 - 10:28 AM Tell me this: is there any baseball team on earth that has a more singable team song?
Go, Cubs, Go! Hey, Chicago, whadda ya say? The Cubs are gonna win today! Wikipedia tells the story of the song and how it was written by Steve Goodman. Oh, and don't forget Steve's Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request, which is in the Digital Tradition, and live by Steve in this video: I'm brother to a rabid Cubs and Steve Goodman fan, and last week we drove a truck from Florida to Wisconsin together. I heard a lot about both Steve and the Cubs last week and this. Go, Cubbies! -Joe, now in Quincy, Illinois- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9XtDyDUjIU With full lyrics: GO CUBS GO! (Steve Goodman) Baseball season's underway Well you better get ready for a brand new day Hey Chicago what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today CHORUS They're singing, Go Cubs go, go Cubs go Hey Chicago what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today Go Cubs go, go Cubs go Hey Chicago what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today They got the power, they got the speed To be the best in the National League Well, this is the year and the Cubs are real So come on down to Wrigley Field CHORUS We're singing now Go Cubs go, go Cubs go Hey Chicago what do you say? Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: Donuel Date: 25 Oct 16 - 06:46 PM Steve Goodman You're going to bring the Cubs all the way. We miss you. I know you do too, so help a ball or two over the Ivy tonight. The Cubs are done dashing a young man's dreams like so much popcorn under the right field bleachers. I've seen miracles there. Let's see them on the field tonight. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: Donuel Date: 26 Oct 16 - 10:53 AM One day in the right field bleachers at Wrigley the 7th inning stretch became an experience of a lifetime. going to the concession would have been an exercise in futility from there so most people just kept their seats. Right after the singing of take me out to the ball game, a Watusi looking gentleman stood up and let out a siren like wail that was penetrating to the bone but musical in a beyond music dimension. He held that note for a good 20 seconds but when I expected him to run out of air he intensified his tone with the feel of defiance and went on for a full minute. He had to take a breath sometime but on he went. by minute 2 some people began to applaud but most people just sat there in awe. I know people can hold their breath for three minutes but this guy was blowin it out with a clarion tone of other worldly one note purity. 3 fuckin minutes and he was still going with most people now applauding and cheering him on. The 7th inning stretch was coming to a close but I began to think that this amazing man would keep going and at the height of his amazing performance without taking a breath would continue. Gradually by minute 5 the tone took on a fading into the distance quality and grew farther and farther away. Breathing didn't exist, time was left behind and I could still hear him. The pitch resumed the game and there was a silence I can't describe. The Watusi one note song now belonged to the ages and the applause was all for him, not the Cubs. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cubs or Indians - 2016 World Series From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Nov 16 - 01:05 AM You know, Michael, I don't know and I don't care about the political views of the owners of the Cubs. Tonight is about the players and the fans. I swear, this must have been the most exciting game in the history of baseball. My brother texted: "Let's just skip the election and keep playing baseball." My brother has always been a big Cubs fan and a big Steve Goodman fan. At the end of the game, he texted: "For Steve Goodman and all the Cubs fans who couldn't be watching this on earth, Go Cubs Go!" The entire World Series was exciting, but this was a game for the ages. Go, Cubs, Go!!!! And here's a toast to Steve Goodman and the most singable team song ever written! -Joe- |

Subject: BS: Cubs Win Series -- How Do Indians Feel? From: Rapparee Date: 03 Nov 16 - 08:32 AM Yes, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series last night. But how do you think the Cleveland Indians feel? They played just as hard and actually had won more games for most of the Series. But while Chicago celebrates, Cleveland must hand its head. People in Cleveland have feelings too, and to lose in their stadium is devastating. I understand that mental health admissions to the Cleveland Clinic are skyrocketing. So perhaps a more subdued celebration is in order, or perhaps the people in charge of baseball could award both cities the title and they could share. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cubs Win Series -- How Do Indians Feel? From: gillymor Date: 03 Nov 16 - 09:15 AM They probably feel like they're experiencing the aftermath of signing a treaty with the U.S. government. Seriously though, they've got no reason to hang their head. They kept coming back in that game, one of the best and most dramatic I've ever seen, and just came up a little short. It wouldn't surprise me to see these two teams in the Series next year. If the Indians get their starting rotation back and healthy, who knows. I watched the game with some lifelong Cub fans and I do know how they feel. I don't want to jinx it but it looks like the Cubs could be good for a long time. |
