Speaking of early voices, the October 22 issue of The Atlantic had a long article on the politics of our election year. In passing, they made frequent mention of Trump's abilities (Democrat O'Malley, when asked how he would handle it if he were the nominee who had to debate Mr. Trump, said he would handle it as if Trump were "a monnkey with a machine gun". Over and over in the article - mind you, this was long before Election Day and at a time when Secretary Clinton seemed comfortably ahead - various people were quoted giving their opinions of Donald Trump. Devastating stuff.

And then we - the American people - elected him.

I was watching a TED.com video by Michael Dickenson on fly brains and.........

at about 6:20 minutes in he compares the size of a fly brain and what it can do, with a human brain. then 10 seconds later a picture of Trumpy comes up and he progresses to propose the Trump number.

This being: "Size of the behavioral repertoire" divided by "the number of neurons".

And he firmly believes that the inequality goes with Trumpy!

You know, I've read various versions of just WHY the Electoral College. The one that makes the most sense to me:

The founding fathers (no mothers there) wanted a representative government but when it came down to it, they didn't quite trust the voice of the people. For fairly good reasons, actually: many people were illiterate, many were in remote places where the vicissitudes of politicians and policies were late in reaching them; often, news reached them literal weeks after an event. Therefore the fathers instated a body of better educated, more elite, more aristocratic if you will, men (again, no females) that would have the last word in an election.
