Subject: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: kendall Date: 24 Jan 17 - 09:02 PM I'm interested in buying an antique car in Chevey Chase, and I'd like someone in the DC area to check it out for me. My eyesight is good, but 600 miles is a bit out of my range. Would anyone want to look this over for me? I'd like to come and see it myself, but it's expensive what with travel and lodging etc. What say you? kenmo34@hotmail.com thanks a lot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Rapparee Date: 24 Jan 17 - 09:22 PM How soon do you need it done? I may perhaps be able to con a relative into looking at it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: kendall Date: 25 Jan 17 - 02:21 PM The sooner the better. These things happen suddenly. If he knows something about old cars, it would be a plus. If he can do it, I'll send you the exact address. Thanks, Mate. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Donuel Date: 25 Jan 17 - 06:40 PM I could do it. Want a mechanic to check it |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: kendall Date: 25 Jan 17 - 07:32 PM Yes. If it passes inspection, I would fly into DC and somehow get to Chevy Chase, arrange to get it shipped to Maine. It's quite an undertaking. I hate to fly. Let me contact the owner, and get back to you. I'd be glad to pay you for your time. I just called and left him a note to call me back with the exact address. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Bill D Date: 25 Jan 17 - 07:54 PM just found this... if Donuel can, it's fine. I 'might' but am not much good at cars and am being pretty careful as I'm anticipating hernia surgery. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Donuel Date: 25 Jan 17 - 07:54 PM If it is a dealer they know how to truck it to your door. 200-400 If not you can remotely hire truck transport for the car $300-400 At any rate its cheaper than your plan. Its none of my business but... Sight unseen is dangerous so expect I might try to burst your bubble. So motivation is good to know. Sometimes it is for parked decoration, restoration, drivability and just plain fun. I sent an email too. Chevy Chase is a very expensive area {wall St of Washington) I have a thirty year streak going of not taking a red cent from the public so I don't want to break it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Rapparee Date: 25 Jan 17 - 10:33 PM Bill, you probably won't have to lift it unaided. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Donuel Date: 26 Jan 17 - 12:56 AM Rap blew a seal once but that is his business. Not that there is anything wrong with that. To register an antique car it has to be 20 years old. Most planes are older. If the car took leaded gas you too could blow a seal and have valve problems. They need conversions. Transports very greatly by per mile charges. Most people pay to much for nostalgia But every now and then everything goes right like with trump. |

Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Raggytash Date: 26 Jan 17 - 10:34 AM Donuel, You can buy lead additive on the net. I used it in my 1963 Morris Minor, every fourth tank full you add 25 millelitres. That was ina 5 gallon tank. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: kendall Date: 26 Jan 17 - 03:38 PM The whole thing is on the back burner for now. The owner is not very communicative. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: kendall Date: 26 Jan 17 - 08:15 PM I'm rehearsing some of my favorite sea going epithets. I hate having someone waste my time, and I sure don't want to waste yours. Balderdash. |
Subject: RE: BS: Kendall needs a favor From: Donuel Date: 26 Jan 17 - 08:49 PM There is such a thing as sellers remorse and fear of strangers at the house Try having the car brought to a place of his choosing or a dealers lot.. However if something is fishy now it will be fishy (or full of mistrust) later. If we all knew the make&model you would have a lot of eyes. |
