Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: gnu Date: 28 Feb 17 - 10:26 PM I'd just refresh since this is at the bottom of the page but... what the hell? Why not? Subject: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Joe Offer - PM Date: 23 Feb 17 - 05:39 PM On March 15, 44 BCE, the Senators of Rome let Julius Caesar know how they felt about him. A very nice nun sent me this letter: THE IDES OF TRUMP ON MARCH 15TH, 2017 MAIL THE WHITE HOUSE A POSTCARD THAT PUBLICLY EXPRESSES OUR VOCAL OPPOSITION TO ACTIONS OF THE NEW PRESIDENT.. We will strive to show the man, the media, and the politicians how vast our numbers are and we will bury the White House post office . Each of us — every protester from every march, each Congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — will write a single postcard and put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, 2017. -Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We're setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day. So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and write from the heart. All of our issues — DAPL, women's rights, racial discrimination, religious freedom, immigration, economic security, education, the environment, conflicts of interest, the existence of facts — can and should find common cause. That cause is to make it irrefutable that the president's claim of wide support is a farce. How to participate: 1. Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Create your own cards, buy them, share them, it doesn't matter as long as you write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump on them somewhere. 2. If possible, take a picture of your cards and post them on social media (tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump or #TheIdes, please). This will help us verify our numbers. 3. Spread the word! Everyone on Earth can let Washington know their opinion of the President. They can't build a wall high enough to stop the mail. 4. Then, on March 15th, mail your cards to: The President The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 WHEN DO WE MAIL OUR POSTCARDS? We ask everyone to mail their postcards on the same day — March 15, 2017. They will arrive in a wave over the next days and weeks. WHICH POSTCARD AND/OR MESSAGE SHOULD I USE? We leave that up to you. This event is INCLUSIVE. We want everyone — regardless of which issue or issues concerns them most — to be part of this postcard campaign. Some will send pink postcards, others will focus on immigration, or environment, or any number of other issues that are ALL important. We invite people to write personal messages, by hand, from the heart. While mass-produced or computer-produced postcards are also welcome, handwritten cards accentuate the number of people behind this campaign. Please DO write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump somewhere on each of your postcards, If you can, take a photograph of it, and post the picture to social media. Please DO NOT write or depict anything violent or encouraging of violence. (e.g., maybe we shouldn't mention what happened to Caesar..... -Joe-) SHOULDN'T WE PICK ONE ISSUE TO WRITE ABOUT? While everyone writing about one cause would certainly send a more concentrated message, the goal of this campaign is to bring people together in opposition, regardless of which cause they feel is most important. All over the world, people are expressing grave concerns about the directions in which this administration is taking America and the planet. We want all of those people to be part of The Ides of Trump. WHO'S BEHIND THIS EFFORT? Someone had the idea and others stepped up to help, but millions of postcards need to be written by millions of people, or none of it matters. WHAT IS THE POSTCARD COST? Use one first class mail stamp DO I NEED TO INCLUDE A RETURN ADDRESS? No. Postcards do not require a return address. We do not recommend including your actual return address. In other words, if you're thinking of getting a very nice nun mad, think twice.... What will YOU write on your postcard? SPQR |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Mar 17 - 12:11 AM Steve, I don't read just one news source, do you? I have places I trust to get it right and go there first, and if I think they're missing something, I complain about it. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Teribus Date: 01 Mar 17 - 02:11 AM Donuel - 26 Feb 17 - 07:07 PM "we must protest and show goodness has a powerful voice whether it is acknowledged or not. It should be remembered of course that that statement is made on the sole proviso that he [Donuel] gets to decide and dictate to everybody else what "goodness" is. "newsflash there are more sides than one." Very true, but what a pity you are simply just not prepared to listen to it - Hypocrisy at it's worst from another of this forum's proven liars. But two things will come from any attempt to bury the White House in an avalanche of postcards: 1: It might prevent a real appeal to the President of the United States being read and considered 2: It will have no effect on the present incumbent but will do enormous harm to the "Office of the President of the United States of America" - in that Akenaton is perfectly correct. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Jim Carroll Date: 01 Mar 17 - 04:38 AM "Hypocrisy at it's worst from another of this forum's proven liars." Can somebody please stop this level of crude insulting before this serial abuser has this thread closed Donuel has just had his name added to this unpleasant individual's long and growing list of victims. This is the stuff of the schoolyard and malicious cyber-sites - it has no place on a serious discussion forum. Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Mar 17 - 06:37 AM No, Acme, I look at all manner of news sources from all parts of the spectrum, though I tend to avoid tabloidism (not necessarily tabloids, but my antennae are a-twitch for axes to grind). Al Jazeera has good, measured reporting but there is obvious bias as to what they regard as the most important issues of the day. So what? That's the same for western-based media too. If a couple are stabbed to death outside a clothing shop by a jealous lover here, it gets acres more coverage for days on end than a car bomb in Kabul that killed 80 people. Is that bias? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: keberoxu Date: 01 Mar 17 - 12:45 PM anybody actually doing this besides Joe Offer? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: gillymor Date: 01 Mar 17 - 01:24 PM I'm doing it and spreading the word about it. I also like Greg's idea of posting to my Congressman and Senators, which I agree might be more effective, so they'll get postcards as well in addition to the emails I regularly send. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Jim Carroll Date: 01 Mar 17 - 01:43 PM I have fond memories of George Dubya's visit to Ireland some time ago - he stayed about thirty mils from here at Dromoland Castle A courageous young reporter Carol Colemen (a distant relative of the legendary fiddle played, Michael), was given a prepared list of questions she was allowed to ask the Pres. - she threw it away and proceeded to ask the questions she thought important - a truely magic moment to cherish that was debated in the press for some time after - almost as memorable as Thatcher leaving number 10 in tears like a child whose toys had been taken from her. Trump seems to have learned the lesson from that one Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Greg F. Date: 01 Mar 17 - 03:26 PM so they'll get postcards as well in addition to the emails I regularly send. Go for it! Email, most studies have shown, they disregard almost entitely. Actual postal mail is more likely to be noticed. What really gets their attention are telephone calls, but that unfortunately runs into money. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Mar 17 - 09:35 PM I plan to send quite a few, keberoxu. I have a drawer full of post cards and a sheet of stamps. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Janie Date: 14 Mar 17 - 02:54 PM I hosted an Ides of Trump postcard party Sunday - was kinda last minute at the request of a 'resistance' group I belong to. If noting else, I got to meet some people who live locally I haven't met before. My understanding the goal is quantity, not quality - so I just winged off one liners and kept it emphatic but polite. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Mar 17 - 11:26 PM I sent out a handful of them, and re-tweeted some images of postcards the people posted on Twitter. I expect by tomorrow or Monday they'll be getting a lot of mail, though unless the post office says something, Trump will probably not admit to. |
