I turned on the TV this afternoon to find Bloke in the Corner, who used to post here on Mudcat (back in the days when Hull was the centre of the Mudcat universe), sitting in the champion's chair.

For those who don't know, Countdown is an intellectual game show where clever people play with letters and numbers to produce the longest word or perform arithmetical calculations to meet a target number. Other than a small consolation prize for the loser, there are no prizes on offer except for the honour of beating your opponent.

Lawrie won his game, achieving a commendable score in excess of 100. It was his third appearance. He will be back tomorrow in a bid to continue his winning run and become an 'octochamp'.

I was pleased to here, when introducing himself on his first appearance, that he is still keeping up his singing and playing in local sessions.

Hi Doug

We watch Countdown and saw Lawrie from his fist appearance. which he won. I didn't know him but was interested to about his Folk links.

We laughed because from the fist set of letters he created the word lorries - !!!

He won again today.

We are saving everything for the Europa League. ( tongue in cheek).

I don't think we will get into the top 4. I think Liverpool will stop us.

You have a good squad and Mourinho's a good tactician. Tottenham may have lost Kane for weeks. Arsenal could implode. Don't give up! Your boys were definitely targeting Hazard though, weren't they? Didn't like to see that and they were stupid to ignore the ref's ultimatum. I'm beginning to think that Pogba was a big waste of money. Kanté cost Chelsea a third as much and he's looking like the bargain of the century! Anyway, Monaco and City tonight on BT Sport. That first leg was one of the best matches I've ever seen. Looking forward to a repeat!

I think most teams target Hazard but you are right it was stupid to do it just after being warned and right in front of ref.

Pogba is not consistent enough to warrant his money. But it is in his first season and we hope he plays like everyone knows he can.

United have never really replaced midfielders Brian Robson and Roy Keane

Yes City V Seville great game to watch. I watched the 2nd leg last night ;equally exiting but City didn't take their chances.

We play Rostok from Russia tonight. Got to win that Can't get ticket so I will watch on TV.

Good to see Lawrie is still about. Once upon a time there were a lot of mudcatter posts from Humberside and several good sessions, notably the sloop.

Well good luck to Leicester, say I! Sacking Claudio was a rank bad decision. Dead rotten. I want to see the likes of Leicester and Burnley (team of my childhood) playing premier league footie forever. They generally have the habit of putting the big boys in their places. Liverpool have worked wonders against the rest of the top six but have been continually tripped up by the hairy-arses. I love it!

Bloke in the Corner posts at mudcat. I never crossed his path, though I saw those threads that had to do with folk venues.

I agree with you about Leicester and the way they dealt with Claudio.

Strange how top clubs have " bogie teams.

United even when at their pomp have problems with teams like Sunderland and Burnley. This year until very recently Burnley had only won one point away - that point was won at Old Trafford.

Not only beautiful but exciting, frustrating,nervewracking, at least it is if you support Man United.

I played Rugby Union for many years and now I watch it but I much prefer to watch football.

Bloke in the Corner continued his winning streak over eight games and is now an 'octochamp'. He will be back on our screens in the summer to play against    other octochamps in the finals.
